Sources tell FootballScoop that James Ross III is heading south to join the Tulane defensive staff.
Ross spent last season on Luke Fickell's staff at Cincinnati, where he coached the outside linebackers.
Before joining the FBS ranks, Ross, a former Michigan player, had been at the Division III level at Hope College (D-III - MI).
His hire at Cincinnati marked a rare jump from Division III to FBS on-field coach.
Heading into the 2021 season, Ross was hired to coach the linebackers at Hope, and following the retirement of longtime defensive play caller Mike Ricketts he was elevated to defensive coordinator.
At Tulane, he joins a defensive staff led by new defensive coordinator Shiel Wood on Willie Fritz's staff that is coming off one of the most impressive turnarounds in college football last season, going from 2-wins in 2021 to 12-wins and a victory over USC in their bowl game last season.
