Sources: Pete Lembo's special teams coordinator at Buffalo to come from Big 12 staff (Tyler Hancock Coach)

Baylor special teams quality control coach Tyler Hancock will be the special teams coordinator on Pete Lembo's new Buffalo staff, sources tell FootballScoop.

Hancock will have the pleasure of coordinating the special teams under the direction -- and watchful eye -- of one of the top special teams coaches in college football. Lembo was a finalist for the 2022 FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year.

Hancock worked under Lembo once before, at Maryland in 2017, when Lembo was the Terps' special teams coordinator and Hancock a quality control coach.

After Maryland, Hancock was a senior analyst for special teams at West Virginia from 2019-20, the special teams coordinator at Charlotte from 2021-22, and a quality control coach in charge of special teams at Baylor in 2023.

Both of Hancock's units at Charlotte ranked among the top 10 nationally in punt coverage.

Lembo landed the Buffalo job last week after eight seasons as the special teams coordinator and assistant head coach at Maryland, Rice, Memphis and South Carolina. Prior to that, he won 112 games across 15 seasons at Lehigh, Elon and Ball State.
