Sources: Western Michigan makes hire for key recruiting post on Lance Taylor's staff (Syracuse)

With the onset of the Lance Taylor era set for August 31, Western Michigan has filled a critical off-the-field role on Taylor's first-year staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop that WMU has hired Gabriella Mazzie as the program's director of recruiting operations.

Previously, Mazzie served as an recruiting operations assistant at Marist College. The move pairs Mazzie with an energetic off-the-field staff for the Broncos that includes Gaizka Crowley and Paige Robbins on key roles, as well as a litany of young coaches generating buzz throughout college football.

WMU is less than seven weeks from its 2023 season opener against visiting Saint Francis University, and it's just on the verge of coming out of the July dead period after an intense June recruiting and camp calendar.

The program has non-conference "money" games against Power 5 programs Syracuse, Iowa and Mississippi State within the season's opening month; it also starts Mid-American Conference play Sept. 23 at Toledo.

Taylor took over the WMU program last December. A former FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year, Taylor had a decorated run at Stanford, Notre Dame and served last season as Louisville's offensive coordinator.
