South Alabama: The University of South Alabama Strength & Conditioning Department is accepting applications for Fall 2016 internships positions. The Strength & Conditioning staff at the University of South Alabama have a variety of certifications including the CSCS through the National Strength &Conditioning Association, SCCC through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, Certified Sports Performance Coaches through the United States Weightlifting Association, BioSignature Level 2 Practitioners, Functional Movement Screening, and Crossfit Football Certification. The strength staff are approved mentors through the CSCCa. After a 640 hour internship completed at the University of South Alabama the interns will be eligible to sit for the SCCC exam at the CSCCa conference the following May. With the accumulation of all these certifications and experience, the staff will provide a great learning atmosphere for any young coach who participates in the program. After successful completion of the program, strength & conditioning interns will have an understanding of sports nutrition, understand program design and implementation, develop a coaching philosophy, and be able to teach all of the innovative athletic training movements involved in our program. This includes acceleration, multi-directional movement, maximum velocity mechanics, Olympic weightlifting, and Power lifting techniques. Interns will also gain valuable experience leading a group of athletes through: movement preparation, core activation, plyometrics, lift post-workout core movements, and post workout regeneration routines. Applications for the internship at the University of South Alabama should include a cover letter, resume, and references. Applicants should be working towards completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Applications will be due August 1st, 2016. Applicants must also be willing to work early mornings and late nights during the week and weekends. This is a nonpaid position but free apparel will be provided to the student during participation. A background check and liability form must be signed before participation stating the university will not be held responsible for any injuries that may occur during the internship.
