Central Michigan: The CMU Strength and Conditioning Department has spring 2018 unpaid academic internship opportunities available for undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students. Applicants must receive academic credit from current University to be considered. These academic internship positions are designed to engage current students actively seeking a career as a strength and conditioning coach in the day-to-day operations of a Division I weight room. Students will be exposed to all aspects of an NCAA Division I strength and conditioning program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with the supervision and training of ALL varsity programs, completing weekly requirements set out with a hands on weekly curriculum, assisting with daily administrative and maintenance duties, and teaching techniques in a wide variety of lifts.These intern positions provide the opportunity to gain valuable experience while working in a dynamic, educational based, and collaborative environment. Ideal candidates will be certified or actively pursuing certification from NSCA and/or CSCCa. If candidate is currently in pursuit of CSCS certification, Central Michigan University is an approved online proctoring site for the exam. Interns should be prepared to work up to 40 hours/week, which may include days, nights, weekends and/or holidays. All interns will receive instruction in, and be required to comply with, NCAA and Central Michigan University rules, regulations and policies. UTEP: The University of Texas at El Paso is looking to hire two (2) graduate assistant strength and conditioning coaches for the spring semester of 2018. The Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches will assist with football and Olympic sports as assigned. They may also be placed in charge of 1-2 teams of their own. This position holds the responsibility of ensuring compliance with the NCAA regulations, and UTEP policies and procedures. A Bachelor’s degree is required preferably in sports or health sciences discipline, such as Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or other related field . 6 Months to 2 years of experience in strength and conditioning is required. CPR, First Aid and AED certification is required. The preferred candidate should possess a certification with the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC) or National Strength and Conditional Association (CSCS). Nicholls State (FCS): Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA is currently accepting applications for Spring Semester Strength and Conditioning Interns. This is an UNPAID position but can count towards school credit. Citadel: The Citadel is currently accepting applications for two VOLUNTEER Strength & Conditioning (S&C) internship positions. The internship will last from January 4 – April 27. Interns will gain practical experience working in a Division I S&C environment under the guidance of an approved CSCCa mentor. Minimum requirements include CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications; an unwavering work ethic, a desire to become an industry professional, the ability to adjust to a demanding work schedule, and effective communication and leadership skills in a group setting. Other preferred qualifications include certification from a recognized governing body (NSCA, ACSM, USAW, CSCCa, etc.), previous intern or coaching experience, personal involvement in a competitive sport, and proficiency with computer productivity applications. Responsibilities will include assisting with team training sessions, daily, weekly, and semester long professional development assignments, facility maintenance, and other tasks as designated by the S&C staff.
