Ohio State: The intern position vacated by Eron Hodges (see below) has been filled.
Kent State: Ohio State strength and conditoining intern Eron Hodges has accepted a defensive grad assistant job on staff at Kent State.
Portland State: Portland State University is looking for qualified applicants to fill 2 more full time internship positions for summer 2013, starting June 10th through September 6th. This is an unpaid internship working with football. Responsibilities include providing a high level of energy on the floor, coaching proper technique and motivating the athletes through off-season weight lifting and conditioning activities, maintenance and cleanliness of the weight room, research projects on various topics, as well as anything else the head football strength and conditioning coach needs assistance with. The applicant will receive valuable experience at the division I level as well as knowledge that will serve them in the field. Along with coaching in the weight room and on the field, there will be structured classroom times for further education. Requirements: Must be able to work full time and whenever you are needed, Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (or related field) or in final semester, a valid CPR/First Aid certification, and a desire to be a successful strength and conditioning coach. Preferred: A Strength Conditioning or Weightlifting certification (or working toward obtaining a certification) and collegiate athletic playing experience. Cal: Louisiana Tech's Damon Harrington has joined the staff as head strength and conditioning coach for the football program. Mike Blasquez, who oversaw strength and conditioning for the football program the past two seasons, is now the athletic department's director of strength and conditioning.
Northern State (D-II - SD): The Northern State University Department of Athletics is seeking qualified candidates for a Strength and Conditioning graduate assistant position for the 2013-2014 academic year. The position is for 11 months beginning in Aug 2013. Candidates must be accepted and enrolled in a fulltime graduate program at NSU when the GA appointment begins. Applicants interested in the position are eligible for renewal for a second year at the conclusion of the first year. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Developing and monitoring strength training programs for athletic teams; Instruction in proper lifting techniques and speed development; Testing and evaluating physical performance; Overseeing operation and general maintenance of weight activities; Conducting the orientation meetings for student athletes; Developing staff work and supervision schedules; Assisting with the development of written policies and procedures; Game management supervision/security; And communicating with AT staff in regards to athletic injury, rehabilitation, and nutrition. Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree. Knowledge of athletic movement/function and proper rest and recovery for all sports is required. Preferred requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and CSCS certification or equivalent.
