Larry Knight continues to carve an interesting career path.
Already with a pair of Power 5 programs on his resume because serving as a defensive quality control coach on Rocky Top for the Tennessee Vols and the previous three seasons on Geoff Collins's Georgia Tech staff, Knight now is returning to Temple.
The Owls mostly recently had Antoine Smith, a well-traveled veteran, as their defensive line coach, but Knight will assume those duties.
In addition to Knight's Power-5 stints, he previously served at Temple as a quality control coach and also then was promoted to help up the Owls' personnel department. He's coached at Georgia State and Cincinnati as well.
Temple coach Stan Drayton praised Knight, who arrived back at Temple after spending the past several months on Jason Candle's Toledo staff, in the school's statement:
"Coach Knight is an outstanding young coach who knows what it takes to win here at Temple," Drayton, preparing for his second year atop the program, said. "He knows how to get the best (out) of his players, evidenced by the development of Keion White who he helped become a second round draft choice for the New England Patriots.
"He understands the culture that it takes to win here in North Philadelphia and what type of student-athletes can be developed on 10th and Diamond. I'm excited to add him to this staff."
The Owls, 3-9 a year ago in Drayton's debut campaign as a head coach, have quite an interesting opening month to start the 2023 season. Temple hosts Akron to start the season, has a road trip to Greg Schiano's Rutgers program in Week 2 and also has September home games against the Miami Hurricanes and UTSA Roadrunners.
