Jordan Peterson, who’s been a key cog in Lance Leipold’s Kansas rebuilding project, is on the verge of a new challenge.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Peterson is a top target to join Mike Elko’s inaugural Texas A&M staff in a senior defensive assistant coaching post and the deal is expected to be completed today. Billy Liucci has just shared the same.
Peterson is a former Aggies player who launched his coaching career at his alma mater before he added stops at Fresno State for five seasons and three more at New Mexico before he logged four seasons with the Jayhawks.
Peterson was elevated to co-defensive coordinator for Kansas after the conclusion of the 2023 regular season. He had been an on-field assistant coach three of those four seasons at Kansas.
Peterson spent one year as a defensive analyst in the KU transition from Les Miles to Peterson.Elko was hired in late November to replace the fired Jimbo Fisher. The former Aggies defensive coordinator Elko had emerged as an A&M target after he turned around Duke with 19 wins in two seasons.
