Dime Robber Defense Shrinks Vertical and Horizontal Space: Perhaps it was Iowa State University that first put the Odd Double Cloud defense on the football map last season, but Bridgewater College (VA) defensive coordinator Rob Everett has been using some form of it for the last five seasons. What started out as a game plan adjustment against flex-bone option offenses (with corner support on the perimeter) has morphed into an every down defense for the Eagles this season. The cancellation of the B gap up front held opponents to 3.1 yards per carry in the run game and using an additional safety as a middle hole robber bolstered combination coverage packages. As a result, the Eagles lead the conference in total defense, 3rd down and red zone efficiency. Next Tuesday, X&O Labs will be releasing an exclusive clinic report from Coach Everett which details the entire package, including the coverages and pressures he’ll use in this system (this report includes game film). X&O Labs will email this report directly to your email address next Tuesday at 7 am. Enter your email address here–its free.
