Alabama: The Tide are expected to hire Virginia Tech wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins as their new wide receivers coach, per multiple reports. Prior to following Justin Fuente to Virginia Tech, Wiggins coached the wide receivers at Memphis, the running backs at Tulsa and Illinois State, & served as a graduate assistant at New Mexico.
Baker (NAIA – KS): Per source, head coach Mike Grossner will not return. Defensive coordinator Jason Thoren has been named interim head coach.
Mercer (FCS – GA): Mike Adams will be the new defensive coordinator at Mercer, a source tells FootballScoop. He was most recently the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Charleston Southern.
Tennessee: Tee Martin’s contract is for two-years and worth $450,000 annually, Blake Toppmeyer tweets.
Kansas: Les Miles has hired Les Koenning as offensive coordinator. Koenning served as running backs coach at Southern Miss this season. He has previously served as offensive coordinator at UAB, Mississippi State, Alabama and several other programs.
Northern Illinois: Eric Eidsness is leaving South Dakota State (FCS) to join Thomas Hammock’s staff as offensive coordinator.
Arizona Cardinals: Tom Clements has been formally announced as quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator. Additionally, the Cardinals will not hire an offensive coordinator. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury will call plays.
Kansas: Les Miles has hired Bethel (NAIA – TN) head coach Brent Dearmon to be a senior offensive consultant at KU, Bethel has announced. Details here.
Bethel (NAIA – TN): With Brent Dearmon off to Kansas, Bethel has appointed assistant head coach Michael Jasper as interim head coach.
Grand View (NAIA– IA): Grand View University (Des Moines, IA) is seeking applicants for a Full-Time Offensive Assistant Football Coach which may possibly be a Coordinator. This is a 12-month position. Email cover letter, resume and three references
Southeastern Louisiana (FCS): Former McNeese State (FCS) head coach Lance Guidry is the new defensive coordinator for the program.
Detroit Lions: The Lions have announced the addition of former Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego as their new special teams coordinator. Bonamego previously served in the same capacity prior prior to leaving for the CMU job. Back on December 23rd we shared, via sources, that the Lions were interested in bringing Bonamego back on staff.
Clemson: Defensive coordinator Brent Venables gets a $200k retention bonus today, Darren Rovell tweets.
Oregon: Washington State linebackers coach Ken Wilson is expected to join the Ducks staff in the same capacity, Bruce Feldman tweets.
North Park (D-III – IL): Sources tell FootballScoop that Carthage (D-III – WI) assistant head coach / offensive coordinator / tight ends coach Kyle Rooker will be the new head coach at North Park University in Chicago.
Kansas City Chiefs: Adam Schefter tweets that former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan is a name to watch for the recently open Chiefs defensive coordinator post.
Oregon State: USF defensive backs coach Blue Adams is joining the Oregon State staff, Mike Singer of Rivals tweets.
Miami: Source tells FootballScoop that Akron defensive line coach Todd Stroud, who has had previous coaching stops at as an assistant Memphis, NC State, and Auburn and previously served as the head coach at West Alabama (D-II), is expected to join Manny Diaz’s staff at Miami in a role to be determined.
Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs have fired defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, the team has announced. Andy Reid shares in the release, “Bob is a good football coach and a great person. He played an integral role in the success of our team over the last six seasons. I’ve said before that change can be a good thing, for both parties, and I believe that is the case here for the Chiefs and Bob. This was not an easy decision, but one I feel is in the best interest of the Kansas City Chiefs moving forward.”
Temple: Two additional members of the Northern Illinois staff are following Rod Carey to Temple and have been officially announced. Mike Uremovich will be the co-offensive coordinator after three seasons as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at NIU, and NIU special teams coordinator Dan Sabock will serve as a defensive and special teams analyst.
UConn: Mike Moyseenko, who just wrapped up his first season as a quality control coach on staff, is being promoted to running backs coach. He replaces Terry Richardson, who we shared earlier is leaving for the same post at Mississippi State.
Oakland Raiders: Jon Gruden confirmed today during his Senior Bowl presser that former Bucs defensive line coach Brentson Buckner is coming on board to coach the defensive line, replacing Mike Trgovac who is being promoted within the organization.
Husson (D-III – ME): After 12 seasons, head coach Gabby Price has announced that he is stepping down. Price is the winningest coach in school history and led the program to five Eastern Collegiate Football Conference titles & ten winning seasons. Overall, Price went 72-45 with the program.
Thiel (D-III – PA): Thiel College seeks two assistant football coaching interns. Defensive line and offensive skill experience is preferred. Responsibilities include: Assist the head coach in all aspects of game and practice preparations; Mentor and monitor the student-athletes academic progress; Recruit and develop qualified student-athletes within institutions needs and goals. Applicants are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Prior coaching and/or collegiate playing experience preferred. These 10-month positions include a stipend, housing, meals, and health benefits, as well as professional development opportunities. Arizona State: Fresno State defensive line coach Jamar Cain has now been officially announced as the program’s new defensive line coach.
Cincinnati Bengals: Jon Gruden shared today that his quarterbacks coach, Brian Callahan, is leaving the Raiders to become the offensive coordinator on Zac Taylor’s staff. Taylor, the quarterbacks coach on Sean McVays staff in LA, can officially be named head coach of the Bengals at the conclusion of the Rams season.
Georgia: Louisiana-Lafayette defensive graduate assistant Austin Armstrong has joined the UGA staff in a defensive quality control role, sources tell FootballScoop. Armstrong worked with the linebackers at ULL.
NCAA: NCAA to vote on guaranteed access to mental health services and resources for student athletes, as well as a handful of other things on the docket.
Green Bay Packers: Mississippi State offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is joining the Packers staff as quarterbacks coach, per source. Rob Demovsky of ESPN has reported the same. Getsy spent the past season in Starkville, and prior to that coached the wide receivers in Green Bay.
XFL: Los Angeles Chargers chief marketing and strategy officer Jeffrey Pollack has been named president and COO of the XFL
Utah State: Mark Orphey has been named corners coach. Orphey spent the past two seasons coaching the secondary at Utah State.
Midwestern State (D-II – TX): Per source, Independence CC (JC – KS) tight ends / assistant offensive line coach Justin Hafner has accepted a graduate assistant position working with the wide receivers at Midwestern State.
Mississippi State: Per source, Mississippi State is planning to add UConn running backs coach / assistant head coach Terry Richardson to the staff, pending a background check.
Louisiana-Lafayette: UTSA director of player personnel Jacob LaFrance has accepted the same role at ULL, per source.
Louisiana Tech: Per source, Southern Miss tight ends coach Brock Hays is leaving to join the LA Tech staff.
Northern Iowa (FCS): Justin Roper has joined the program as quarterbacks coach. Roper previously worked as the offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach at Slippery Rock (D-II – PA). Roper, the former Oregon and Montana (FCS) quarterback, has had a coaching journey that includes stops at Findlay (D-II – OH) and Valdosta State (D-II – GA).
Kansas State: The program has officially announced Scottie Hazelton as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
New York Jets: Ian Rapoport tweets that the Dolphins have granted permission to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains to speak with other teams and that he’s expected to join Adam Gase and the Jets as offensive coordinator.
Pittsburgh: Pitt is no longer accepting applicants for the three open graduate assistant positions. Thank you for the overwhelming interest in the positions.
Western Michigan: Sources tell FootballScoop that Western Michigan is hiring Joe Palcic as their new special teams coordinator. Palcic spent the past two seasons coordinating the special teams at Miami (OH) and prior to that spent four seasons coaching the linebackers and secondary.
South Carolina: The addition of Arkansas defensive line coach John Scott Jr. as the team’s new defensive line coach is now official. David Cloninger tweets that his deal is for one-year and worth $435,000.
Kansas State: Wyoming defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton is leaving to become the new defensive coordinator on Chris Klieman’s staff, per multiple reports. Klieman originally hired Ted Monachino for the spot, but Monachino recently left to become the outside linebackers for the Bears.
Averett (D-III – VA): Per source, linebackers coach / special teams coordinator David Clark has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
Saint Augustine University (D-II – NC): Saint Augustine University is looking for a home game for week 1 and week 2 (Sept. 7, Sept. 14) of the 2019 season. Green Bay Packers: Justin Outten, the offensive line coach with the Falcons, is set to join the staff as tight ends coach, per Tom Silverstein. The report adds that Brian Angelichio will not return next season after coaching the tight ends the past three years.
