Carolina Panthers: The Panthers have promoted assistant defensive line coach Frank Okam to defensive line coach. The club also hired Don Johnson as a pass rush specialist and Terrance Knighton and Garret McGuire as coaching assistants. Both played for Matt Rhule, Knighton at Temple and McGuire at Baylor.

Michigan: Michigan has formally announced Matt Weiss as its new quarterbacks coach.

Florida State: FSU paid Willie Taggart nearly as much not to coach as it paid Mike Norvell in 2020.

Kansas State: K-State is expected to hire USF strength coach Trumain Carroll to the same post, tweets Pete Thamel. Carroll replaces Chris Dawson, who left for UCF.

Fort Scott CC (JC – KS): We appreciate the interest in our defensive assistant position. Due to the high number of applicants, we are no longer accepting applications.

UCF: Devin Ducote is joining Gus Malzahn’s staff at UCF as director of recruiting & player personnel. Most recently, Ducote served as defensive coordinator at West Feliciana HS (LA). He previously served on Gus’ staff at Auburn and also worked at LSU and Kansas.

Minority NFL Head Coaches: HBO Real Sports is doing a feature story on the NFL’s failure to hire more minority head coaches.

Oregon State: Friday we wrote that AJ Steward had emerged as the leading candidate for the running backs job at Oregon State. Today, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg tweets that Steward is expected to get the job. Steward spent 2020 in the same role at Arizona and previously coached running backs for BYU and Rice.

Mary Hardin-Baylor (D-III – TX): Landon Sawyer, who spent the 2019 season as a graduate assistant for the program working with the quarterbacks and recruiting, has been promoted to a full-time position working with the running backs, sources tell FootballScoop.

Sam Houston State (FCS – TX): The Bearkats program has announced new roles for two former players. Chris Rogers will serve as offensive line coach and Matt Merkens will be the team’s tight ends coach.

EA Sports: The return of everyone’s favorite college football game will be missing one iconic program…at least for now.

Bowling Green: Northwestern scouting assistant Chris Haase is joining the Bowling Green staff as director of player personnel.

Kansas: KU has announced Jake Schoonover as outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. He spent the past three years in a similar capacity at Bowling Green. The hire will allow Jonathan Wallace to focus exclusively on running backs. Chidera Uzo-Diribe, KU’s outside linebackers coach in 2020, has left the program to become defensive line coach at SMU sources tell FootballScoop.

UCF: Coastal Carolina safeties coach Addison Williams is joining Gus’ staff as corners coach.

Coaches of the Year: Prior winners selected Perry Eliano & Colin Hitschler of Cincinnati – 2020 FootballScoop Defensive Backs Coaches of the Year.

SMU: Sources tell FootballScoop SMU is planning to make Stef McClure their new corners coach.

Ottawa Arizona (NAIA – AZ): Per source, Mayville State (NAIA – ND) wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Logan Levy has accepted the running backs graduate assistant job.

Troy: Director of recruiting Dayne Brown is being promoted to special teams coordinator and tight ends coach, Adam Rittenberg tweets. He fills the role of Brian Blackmon, who left to join Gus Malzahn at UCF.

UNLV: Sources tell FootballScoop that Marcus Arroyo is turning to a familiar PAC-12 program to fill an offensive vacancy on his staff.

Harvard (FCS – MA): Harvard is looking to fill Offensive and Defensive Quality Control position with responsibilities for on-field, operations and recruiting support. This is an entry level or above position. Deion Sanders: Jackson State won Coach Prime’s first game as head coach over the weekend. After the team presented him with the game ball, he found out his wallet, phone and everything else had been stolen during the game…but there’s more drama to the story.

Sacramento State (FCS – CA): The Sacramento State University Football Program is currently accepting applications for UNPAID internships to begin March 2021. This position will be working alongside the TE’s Coach / Special Teams Coordinator. Responsibility includes film break down, Self-Scout, Opponent Scout, assisting in game planning and hands-on experience learning how to be a efficient college coach. UCF: Gus Malzahn has added Hawaii offensive coordinator GJ Kinne to the staff.

Michigan: Jim Harbaugh is bringing in an NFL assistant to complete his staff overhaul, per reports.

Ottawa University (NAIA – AZ): Ottawa University Arizona has an immediate opening for a Defensive Backs coach. Preference will be given to applicants that have experience coaching defensive backs. College coaching and recruiting experience is preferred. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, practice planning, coaching a position group, leading meetings, film break down, player evaluation and recruiting, promotion and marketing of the program, and assisting in general day to day football operations.
