Slippery Rock: We have learned that receivers coach Phil Longo has been promoted to offensive coordinator. 

Iowa: We're hearing LeVar Woods will remain the defensive line coach. Not confirmed; but we've heard it from a number of sources. No definitive word yet on defensive coordinator. We'll keep you posted. 

New Mexico: Word is that Tulsa defensive tackles coach Archie McDaniel has accepted a position on the staff at New Mexico. 

Houston: Tony Levine has hired Ricky Logo (Furman defensive line) to work "with Carlton Hall" in coaching the defensive line. 

St. Louis Rams: Mort is reporting tonight that Hue Jackson will interview for the offensive coordinator role; but Brian Schottenheimer is still considered the front-runner. 

Eastern Illinois: Sources tell us Iowa State defensive grad assistant Nick Caley has accepted the defensive backs job at EIU. 

Willamette: We have learned that offensive coordinator Glen Fowles will be named head coach (possibly as soon as tomorrow). Fowles was the FootballScoop 2008 D-III Coordinator of the Year. 

Morgan State (FCS - MD): Morgan State has an offensive grad assistant (offensive line preferred) available. Paid position (also includes tuition and fees for grad school). Bachelor's degree required w GPA of 3.0 or higher. Please send resume and cover letter to Coach Wright ( If selected for an interview you will be notified. 

North Greenville: We have learned that Mercer associate head coach / offensive line Carroll McCray will be named head coach. Announcement could come as early as tomorrow. 

Memphis: We have confirmed that Texas State co-offensive coordinator / running backs coach Darrell Dickey will become offensive coordinator at Memphis. 

Hawaii: We hear that defensive backs / special teams coordinator Chris Demarest is leaving East Stroudsburg to join Norm Chow's staff as special teams coordinator. 

Montana: Sources telling us linebackers coach Ty Gregorak will be promoted to defensive coordinator.

West Virginia: Moments ago John Buccigross of ESPN tweeted that Randy Shannon to West Virginia as DC was "pretty much done". We immediately contacted a source extremely close to the situation. He said it absolutely is not happening. Love Bucci, just hear his info on this one was incorrect. 

Western Kentucky: We hear offensive grad assistant Nick Sheridan will be promoted to quarterbacks coach. 

Mississippi State: State has a couple of full time assistant strength jobs available. 

Mike Martz: Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Mike Martz told him today that he is retiring from coaching. 

Tennessee Titans: We hear the Titans have hired Brett Maxie to coach the secondary. Maxie had been with the Cowboys. 

Kansas: Charlie Weis says he hopes to have his linebackers spot filled by the end of the week. 

UCLA: We hear that Jim L. Mora has his eyes on an NFL coach still active in the playoffs for his defensive coordinator spot. 

Merrimack College (D-II - MA): Merrimack has open dates of September 8 and October 6, 2012. Looking to fill both. Please contact coach Odell Jones at 978.837.5033 or

Washington: Sources close to the program tell us receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty will likely move to quarterbacks coach; and possibly be named offensive coordinator as well. Not a done deal yet. We'll keep you posted. 

Texas Southern: We have learned that Jackson State assistants Greg Ruffin (running backs / recruiting coordinator) and Carl Roberts (assistant offensive line coach) are joining the staff at Texas Southern. Ruffin will serve as recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach while Roberts will coach the offensive line.

Waldorf College (NAIA - IA): Kent Anderson, who was head coach at Iowa Wesleyan (see below), has been named head coach at Waldorf. 

Washington: Cal defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi will be the hire for Sark at defensive line. 

Eastern Michigan: Mike Hart has been promoted from offensive quality control to running backs coach.

Arizona State: Not surprising news, but Todd Graham stated recently that Mike Norvell will have the offensive coordinator title and Bob Connelly will be the run game coordinator. 

Iowa Wesleyan College: is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Football Coach. Iowa Wesleyan located in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Its football tradition dates back to 1890, and with the pending shift from NAIA to NCAA Division III the college invites applicants who embrace the opportunity to build a successful program within that guiding philosophy. Candidates should be able to demonstrate outstanding mentorship of players and assistant coaches, thorough knowledge of Division III recruiting strategies and rules, and a desire to create and sustain a successful Division III football program. Qualifications for the position include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a Master’s degree preferred. Additional requirements include prior successful coaching experience at the college or high school level, with preference for NCAA Division III experience. Wisconsin: As we told you on Thursday, Western Kentucky offensive coordinator Zach Azzanni has now officially been named receivers coach at Wisconsin. Azzanni was the 2009 FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year. 

Maryland: Tom Dienhart is reporting that former Houston defensive coordinator Brian Stewart will be named defensive coordinator at Maryland. 

North Greenville: We hear the finalists are Carroll McCray (Mercer - OL), Patrick Nix (Charleston Southern - OC) and Brett Hickman (NGU - special teams / interim head coach). Have been told, but haven't confirmed that final interviews with at least one of these is going on as we type this with the President of the University. We expect an announcement no later than tomorrow. 

Tulane: New Orleans Saints scout Mike Neu has declined an offer to become quarterbacks coach at UConn and instead will take the same position at Tulane under Curtis Johson. We also hear offensive quality control Frank Smith will serve as offensive line coach. 

Carolina Panthers: Chargers assistant, Steve Wilks has been hired to coach the secondary. 

Concordia University (NAIA - Ann Arbor, MI): seeks candidates for a Defensive Graduate Assistant. Coaching duties include coaching a position group, games, recruiting, camps, equipment, video and other duties assigned by the Head Coach. A recruiting area, responsibilities in our strength and conditioning program and monitoring academic progress of student-athletes will be assigned. College coaching or college player participation preferred. Qualifications include acceptance into graduate school and the candidate must meet the CUAA vehicle driving qualifications. The position includes tuition and a small stipend. (Concordia offers Masters programs in Business and Education). Candidate review begins immediately and continues until filled. South Carolina: We hear NC State running backs coach Everette Sands has the running backs job. Update> Confirmed. 

Wisconsin Whitewater: We've got a couple of guys looking for an update on the open quarterbacks job at UWW. Let us know what you hear. 

New Mexico: We learned this morning that Kevin Fouquier has turned down Bob Davie's offer to coach the defensive line and instead we hear he will remain in Lafayette, LA where his son has committed to play for Hud at ULL.

Rochester Community and Technical College (JUCO - MN): Interim head coach Derrick Hintz has been named head coach.

UMass: We hear Charley Molnar III, an offensive grad assistant at Buffalo, will join the staff in the same capacity. 

Central Florida: We hear former UAB assistant Tyson Summers will join the staff. Summers coached the linebackers and safeties and worked with the special teams during his tenure at UAB. 

Western Illinois: Kevin Corless has been hired as defensive coordinator. Corless served as defensive coordinator at Arkansas State in 2009 & 2010. 

Mike Sherman: Saturday we were informed of a letter that Mike sent to hundreds of Texas high school coaches shortly after Kevin Sumlin was named head coach at A&M. If you haven't already read it, you really should. Well over 20,000 people read it this weekend and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We asked one of Sherman's staff about the letter, his response was simple, "Mike's a stud."

Clemson: Late last night Brent Venables said that at this time he has not accepted the Clemson job. Another name we've heard was high on Dabo's list was Chuck Heater, defensive coordinator at Temple. We'll keep you posted.
