Maine Maritime (D-III): Matthew Reed, who joined the Grinnell (D-III - IA) staff coaching the quarterbacks back in June, has left to become the recruiting coordinator / running backs / wide receivers coach at Maine Maritime, per source.

Portland State: Head coach Bruce Barnum has received "significant economic sanctions" as a result of an inappropriate relationship with another employee in the athletic department. Read more here.

Penn State: Gary Sinderson of 6 News reported last night that, including annual increases in base salary and incentives, James Franklin's contract extension could be worth more than $6 million annually by 2022. Update:Bruce Feldman reports Franklin's new deal is six years at an average of $5.8 million a year.

Art Briles: According to the Waco Tribune, Briles' attorney, Mark Lanier, says that schools have contacted Briles about coaching again and adds that he expects Briles to be coaching again in 2018. Pending a judge's signature, a Title IX case against Baylor, brought forward by one of the victims of sexual assault, accused Briles of negligence will be settled and closed. Lanier adds that the closure provided in the case "is one step toward him getting back into coaching. He did not want to get back into coaching until he finished through the legal system.”
