Please join us in praying for the family of Coach Jesse "Butch" Stoker who has passed away. A Louisiana high school coaching legend, Coach Stoker was recently inducted into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame. Butch's son Scott coaches the linebackers at Louisiana Monroe.
P.J. Fleck: After winning the MAC Championship tonight, Fleck had this to say when asked about job rumors: "If you don't live in the moment you're going to be miserable, and I don't want to be miserable tonight."
Wyoming: Head coach Craig Bohl has signed a new seven-year contract that will run through the end of the 2023 season. Bohl had two years remaining on his previous contract, and the new contract extends that by five more years with a starting base pay in the first year of the deal at $1.4 million. Bohl has led the Cowboy program to an 8-4 mark and an appearance in the conference title game this season. More details on the new deal, including buyout info, here.
Notre Dame: Notre Dame released a video today of athletic director Jack Swarbrick reaffirming that Brian Kelly is committed to being back with the Irish next season. Swarbrick went on to note in the interview: "It was an extremely disappointing year. Every player, every coach, myself, other administrators involved in the program, we all share the same view. There's no way around that conclusion. It's not bad breaks, it's not a play here or a play there, we didn't do what we need to do.”
Mike MacIntyre: Colorado SID David Plati tweets that any reporting of a meeting between Mike MacIntyre and Baylor "tonight / tomorrow" are NOT TRUE. Plati went on to attempt to publicly shame the reporter (who is with FoxSports) who said there were plans.
Scout.com: Scout has been "hit with an involuntary Chapter 11 petition in the US Bankruptcy Court". Scout has 21 days to respond or would make the bankrutcy official. According to TheStreet.com three primary creditors are owed nearly $800,000. Scout Media President responded to TheStreet via email by saying, "We have no comment at this time other than to say Scout's best-in-class network of publishers will continue to provide the premium content and dynamic communities that our millions of users know and love."
Purdue: USA Today's Dan Wolken is reporting Purdue is no longer confident they will get their much anticipated meeting with PJ Fleck following the MAC championship game and "are prepared to move onto their next target, WKU head coach Jeff Brohm." Wolken adds that should Brohm leave, WKU has identified Troy head coach Neal Brown as a primary candidate. Wolken adds Purdue might not get their sit down with PJ Fleck because he is hoping to meet with Oregon and would be willing to remain at WMU if an opportunity he did not love did not present itself.
Nick Saban: Asked how long he plans to coach at a presser today, Saban responded by saying that he'll coach as long as he's healthy and as long as he thinks he can do it well.
Houston: Lane Kiffin "will interview for Houston’s vacant head coaching position after the Tide’s SEC Championship against Florida" per a report from SB Nation.
Baylor: Chis Low reports that Mike MacIntyre is not a candidate for the Baylor opening despite speculation.
Nebraska: Per HuskersOnline, Arizona corners coach Donte Williams "is the leading candidate to fill the open position on [Mike] Riley's staff, and an agreement could already be in place." We understand the offer from Nebraska is real and would be tough to pass up.
Clemson: Dabo Swinney has already earned $300,000 in bonuses for leading the program to 11 wins and the ACC title game, and can collect an additional $1.1 million by winning three more games ($75k for winning the ACC title, $325k for playing in the CFP seminal game, $400k for winning that game, $100k for winning the CFP title game, and $200k for finishing the season in the top five), per The State.
Purdue: According to a tweet from Dan Dakich, "Not declaring it 'done' yet but Jeff Brohm to Purdue is doneish." Dakich adds that he hears "press conference Monday".
Furman (FCS - SC): Head coach Bruce Fowler has resigned. In six seasons as head coach, Fowler's teams won 27 games, 20 in conference. Fowler was the SoCon Coach of the Year in 2013.
Scott Frost: Frost recently told the Orlando Sentinel that he wouldn't take the Oregon job even if Phil Knight came to table and offered $8 million a year, adding; "When you recruit kids to come play for you and you agree to do something for a program; when you give your word to people, I think it's your responsibility to see those things through." Frost adds that "a lot of coaches are in a hurry to take the next step."
Louisiana Lafayette: Sources tell FootballScoop, ULL offensive quality control Brady Thomas will be the new head coach at Vermilion Catholic HS (LA).
Nevada: Sources tell FootballScoop that Nevada considers Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig a strong candidate for their open head coaching position. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg is reporting that Eastern Washington's (FCS) Beau Baldwin is also a candidate. Over the past few days we have also heard Baldwin's name mentioned as a potential candidate.
Blinn (JC - TX): Ryan Mahon, who served as the interim head coach this past season, has had the interim tag removed and will serve as head coach of the program moving forward.
FIU: Butch Davis will be paid $900,000 in his first season, according to the Miami Herald. As part of his five-year deal he'll get a 5% raise each season and the assistant salary pool will be around $1.6 million.
Ripon (D-III - WI): Per source, Beloit College (D-III - WI) assistant Jake Marshall has accepted an assistant coaching job at Ripon where he will also take on the additional duties of recruiting coordinator.
Mesabi Range (JC - MN): Mesabi Range College is seeking a head football coach and Retention Specialist. Three years of head football coaching experience at a minimum of Division 3 level and three years of higher education experience in a related field of retention, recruiting, academic advising, or faculty teaching. Position will start February 1, 2017 (negotiable). Salary is dependent on educational background and experience.
