The Scoop - Friday November 24, 2017

Friday November 24, 2017

Oregon State: Sources tell FootballScoop Oregon State officials plan to make Cal OC Beau Baldwin their new head coach once Oregon State concludes their season (although it was stressed to us tonight by source close to the search that nothing has been finalized and will not until after Oregon State's season ends). More on the move here.

Arkansas: Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads will serve as the program's interim head coach.

The punter sees an opportunity, oh, no, no, oh no! No! NO!

Arkansas: Interim athletic director Julie Cromer Peoples stated tonight that "We'll launch the coaching search this evening. I'll be running point on the search".

Iowa: With their win today over Nebraska, Iowa finished the regular season 7-5. Believe it or not, 7 wins is the trigger for an even greater contract for Kirk Ferentz (man, I hope he treats his agent Neil Cornrich to a trip around the world every year or something). USA Today's Steve Berkowitz has some of the details here and here.

Arkansas: Firing Bret Bielema is one thing, but HOW it was done by Arkansas administration is unacceptable.

Nebraska: Lars Anderson of Bleacher Report notes tonight his source tells him Scott Frost to Nebraska is a done deal. Anderson holds himself out as having deep connections to Nebraska. For what it is worth, sources tell FootballScoop Florida officials feel very confident in their ability to secure Frost as their next head coach. All of this comes after many, many coaches told FootballScoop Chip Kelly plans to choose UCLA over Florida.

Arkansas: The Hogs have fired Bret Bielema. The way they did it, that's cold.

Florida: USA Today's George Schroeder is now also reporting Chip Kelly is no longer considering the Florida job.

Gary Patterson: Gary Patterson told the assembled media today following their win over Baylor that he has signed an extension through 2024. Update> TCU football has now announced the extension as well.

Chip Kelly: Yahoo sports Pat Forde is now reporting (as all of our coaches were telling us below) that Chip Kelly is planning to choose UCLA. Forde reports, as we wrote below, that Florida is eyeing Scott Frost.

Toledo: Head coach Jason Candle has earned $30,000 in bonus money after beating Western Michigan to lock up the MAC West title. Candle led the Rockets to a 10-2 season.

Pat Narduzzi predicted Pitt would beat Miami... and then Pitt beat Miami.

Chip Kelly: No word from Chip, his agents or UCLA or Florida administrators; but the prevailing belief from coaches is Chip is expected to choose UCLA.

Mississippi State: When Dan Mullen was asked, following their Egg Bowl loss to Ole Miss last night, if he plans on being the head coach at Mississippi State next season, he responded by saying; "I plan on it" then explained why.

Everything that's on the line in Friday's games.

Michigan: Defensive coordinator Don Brown describes the three types of players on his squad, "Guys, dudes and animals"

Ole Miss: Here's our update from Wednesday on the situation at Ole Miss.

Florida State: The Seminoles are preparing to keep Jimbo Fisher around, despite interest from other programs.
