Legendary Texas coaching figure Spike Dykes passed away today. He was 79.

Washington: Chris Petersen has inked a 3-year extension through 2023 that will bump his salary from $4 million to $4.875 million, according to Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated. The extension makes Petersen the highest-paid coach (among publicly available contracts) in the Pac-12. Petersen led Washington to its first Pac-12 title in a decade and a half last season.

Eastern Kentucky (FCS): Former Southern Miss DFO John Barnett has joined EKU's staff in the same capacity, the program announced today.

Hiram (D-III - OH): Hiram College is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach. The assistant football coach position is a full time, 10 month staff position which reports to the head football coach and Director of Athletics. The assistant coach is responsible for; on field receivers coach, assisting with the organization and implementation of a successful recruiting and retention plan for the program, supervising graduate students, volunteer assistant coaches, representing the program in accordance with department/college policies and procedures, and acting in accord with NCAC, NCAA and institutional rules and regulations. Additional duties will include administrative responsibility and teaching in our Exercise/Sport Science program and event management. A Master’s Degree is preferred while a Bachelor’s Degree is required. Valley City State (NAIA - ND): Valley City State University has an opening for a defensive graduate assistant position. Responsibilities include assisting in practice preparation, game day duties, film, recruiting along with any duties assigned by the DC and/or head coach. The position will include a $5,500 stipend, tuition waiver, meal stipend, and housing. Candidate should have coaching or playing experience in a defensive position preferably defensive line. Midwestern State (D-II - TX): Midwestern State University is currently seeking an offensive assistant football coach. Morgan State (FCS - MD): Morgan State University has 2 openings for Quality Control assistants, one on offense and one on defense. Position will only include a small stipend. Must be able to use editing software and be willing to work long hours with a great attitude. Prior coaching experience and any GA/QC experience is a major plus.Morgan State also has an offensive graduate assistant position available. Must be able to get into graduate school. Virginia Tech: Per the Roanoke Times, the Hokies have added $167,500 to salary pool for assistant coaches and support staff members, and head coach Justin Fuente can now add an additional full-time recruiting position with a starting salary of $32,500. Justin Fuente's original contract called for a salary pool of $3.4 million for assistant coaches, and $420,000 for his support staff. Fuente's new contract, which the school announced a week ago, includes a bump on performance bonuses such as $35k for qualifying for the ACC title game (up from $25k in previous deal), $75k for winning the league (up from $50k under previous deal), and $35k if named ACC Coach of the Year, and $100k for making a New Years Six Bowl game, $150k for making the College Football Playoff, and $250k for winning the national title.
