Illinois: Defensive coordinator Hardy Nickerson is taking a leave of absence from the program following the unexpected death of his mother. Lovie Smith, who has an extensive defensive background, noted today that he hasn't addressed who will provide the game plan on defense for their game against Indiana Saturday if Nickerson isn't back, according to The News & Observer. Fresno State: Director of athletics Jim Bartko abruptly resigned today. USA Today's Steve Berkowitz reported yesterday that Bartko had just earned an $8,000 bonus as the Bulldogs became bowl eligible. Reports out of Fresno relay that Bartko noted he is stepping down for personal reasons. We certainly hope everything is ok.
Finlandia (D-III - MI): Rob Boss has been promoted to head coach, the program announced today. He replaces Tim Driscoll, who led the Lions to a 7-17 mark in three seasons as the program's first head coach.
Texas: When asked today if he planned to make changes to his staff, Tom Herman responded strongly saying he plans no changes, "I hired these guys knowing exactly what I was going to get."

Kansas: Almost a year after signing a contract extension with the Jayhawks taking him through the 2021 season that includes a $3.2 million buyout, David Beaty told reporters today that he's not concerned about the status of his contract, adding, "Not at all, I feel great," when asked. Kansas is 1-8 this season after losing to Baylor Saturday.

UCF: Athletic director Danny White, when asked about the likelihood that Scott Frost would be leading the Knights program next season, told Mike Bianchi on the Open Mike radio show that "I think he will. I think he's very committed to being here...I'm excited about the future of our program with Scott Frost at the helm." White then explained that fans and supporters of the program have to do their part, adding "We have to show that we can support and resource the program as fast as Coach Frost is growing it on the field.”
