Houston: Major Applewhite's future with the program is "in doubt," and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles has resigned and is on the move, per report.

Liberty: Memphis inside linebackers coach Scott Symons will become the defensive coordinator on Hugh Freeze's staff, per Pete Thamel. We can confirm the hire.

Florida State: According to multiple outlets, Houston offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is expected to leave for the Florida State offensive coordinator job. Kendal signed a new three-year deal worth $2.1 million earlier this month, making him the highest-paid assistant outside the Power Five conferences.

Ohio State: Urban Meyer will reportedly become an assistant athletic director for the Buckeyes, according to Tom Fornelli. The role will be in addition to Urban also teaching a unique class.

Kansas State: The following coaches have joined Chris Klieman's staff from North Dakota State (FCS); Courtney Messingham (OC / TEs), Conor Riley (OL), Joe Klandnerman (safeties), and Jason Ray (WRs).

Sacramento State (FCS - CA): Sam Cole, who served as the defensive coordinator at Folsom HS (CA) the past three seasons, is joining the staff as safeties coach, source tells FootballScoop. Cole is the second Folsom HS (CA) staffer to join Troy Taylors staff (scroll down to see the other).

Charlotte: Max Thurmond has been announced as special teams coordinator / linebackers coach. Thurmond previously served as the defensive coordinator / linebackers coach at Central Arkansas (FCS).

USF: As many as four assistant coaches are expected to be dismissed, according to the Tampa Bay Times. After their 38-20 loss to Marshall yesterday, where 11 players were suspended, Charlie Strong shared with the Times; "I'm telling you right now, we're going to clean up this whole program. A lot of guys will be leaving. We need a good washing."

Tyler (JC - TX): Tyler Junior College has promoted defensive coordinator Thomas Rocco the new head coach of the program. Rocco joined the program in January of 2017 after spending two seasons as the defensive coordinator at West Texas A&M (D-II).

Navy: The Midshipmen are expected to hire Kennesaw State (FCS - GA) defensive coordinator Brian Newberry their new defensive coordinator, Pete Thamel tweets. Newberry has previously served as the defensive coordinator at Northern Michigan (D-II), and Sewanee University of the South (D-III - TN).

Maryland: DeMatha HS (MD) head coach Elijah Brooks has officially joined the staff and will coach the running backs.

ECU: As we reported previously, Byron Thweatt has now been announced as inside linebackers coach.

Colorado: Mel Tucker is bringing Georgia defensive quality control assistant Travares Tillman on board as defensive backs coach following UGA's bowl game, per multiple reports.

Temple: St. Joseph Prep (Philadelphia, PA) head coach Gabe Infante has stepped down to join Manny Diaz's staff. In nine seasons leading the Hawks program, Infante went 91-22 with four state titles.

Akron: The following coaches are joining Tom Arth's staff, per a tweet from Bruce Feldman; Matt Feeney (DC), Oscar Rodriguez (DBs), Davern Williams (OLBs), Scott Aligo (executive director of player personnel), Brian Cochran (DL), Chris Hurd (STC / RBs), Chris Cook (TEs), and Tommy Zagorski (OL). Each of those coaches joins the staff from after previously working with Art at UT-Chattanooga (FCS).

Charlotte: Sources tell FootballScoop that Tulane offensive line coach Alex Atkins is expected to join Will Healy's staff at Charlotte as offensive coordinator. Pete Thamel has also reported the move.

Georgia Tech: Former Yellow Jacket running back Tashard Choice has joined Geoff Collins' staff as running backs coach. Choice coached the running backs at North Texas last season and was one of the finalists for the FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year.

Kansas State: Former SMU defensive coordinator Van Malone is joining the K-State staff, source tells FootballScoop. Malone had joined the Mississippi State as a senior defensive analyst back in July.

Drake (FCS - IA): Defensive coordinator Todd Stepsis has been promoted to head coach. He replaces Rick Fox who recently announced his retirement. Stepsis has called the defense the past five seasons at Drake and prior to that was the defensive coordinator at Saginaw Valley State (D-II - MI).

Bryant (FCS - RI): Rutgers defensive line GA Marquise Watson has been hired as defensive line coach.

Appalachian State: Justin Watts has been announced as an offensive assistant. We understand he will be the wide receivers coach / recruiting coordinator.

Baltimore Ravens: John Harbaugh will return for a 12th season in 2019, the club announced Friday.

Briar Cliff (NAIA - IA): Briar Cliff has hired LA Valley College offensive coordinator Jeff Cheek to the same post.

Sacramento State (FCS): Folsom (CA) High School head coach Kris Richardson has joined Troy Taylor's staff as assistant head coach and offensive line coach.

Sam Houston State (FCS - TX): Sam Houston State is seeking to fill a Defensive Position (Defensive Line or Linebackers) Interested candidates must have at least 3-5 years D-1 football coaching experience. Interested candidates please email resume and references to Brett Arnold DFO at

Southeast Missouri State (FCS): SEMO is looking to hire a full time equipment manager. The Equipment manager is responsible for the equipment operations of the football department, which includes purchasing, fitting, issuance and maintenance of all football equipment, and apparel for football program.
