Thursday November 24, 2016

On behalf of the staff here at The Scoop, we'd like to wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families.

LSU: Just for fun (???), LSU has released a second, in-game statement tonight regarding their search: "Contrary to media reports, there has been no decision made on who will be the next football coach at LSU. Coach Orgeron has done a great job of leading this team since taking over in late September and we are pulling hard for the Tigers tonight against Texas A&M. As we stated earlier, we are going to take our time and make sure we select the right person to lead our football program."

Tom Herman: UH AD Hunter Yurachek issued the following statement tonight: "I have not been informed by Tom or his agent that they are in conversations with LSU. We are in Memphis together, preparing for a game." From the LSU side, they just issued a statement saying: "There are a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about LSU's coaching search. We will not comment...There is a process in place for the search, and we will take our time to make sure the best decision is made for the future of the program."

Penn State: Penn State is "aggressively" working on extending James Franklin per Dan Wolken of USA Today.

Tom Herman: UH AD Hunter Yurachek met with Tom Herman's agent this week, offering an extension that included a "seven-figure increase in total comp" per Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle.

LSU: Sources on both sides of this deal confirm to FootballScoop that no deal is currently in place with Tom Herman. Texas reps are headed to meet with Tom Herman's reps tonight. Houston plays Friday. This will play out quickly. Stay tuned...

Texas: Sources tell FootballScoop representatives of the University of Texas do not believe Tom Herman has agreed to become LSU's next head coach and are on their way now to meet with his representatives. This is getting real...

Tom Herman: Chip Brown of HornsDigest reports Herman is close to being named the head coach at LSU. ESPN's Chris Low has reported the same after Jimbo Fisher "opted to stay put before talks ever got too far down the road". LSU AD Joe Alleva declined comment on this "or any other report that's out there," according to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate. Meanwhile, Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reports Charlie Strong could save his job with a blowout of TCU tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Bryant (FCS - RI): Sources confirm to FootballScoop, long-time defensive coordinator Greg Gigantino has been let go from Bryant after 11 seasons. Since 1990, Gigantino had previously served as defensive coordinator at Hofstra University and at Cornell.

Liberty (FCS - VA): Sources tell FootballScoop offensive line coach Dennis Wagner will not return to the staff.

Southwestern (NAIA - KS):Southwestern College is looking for a home and home opponent for the next two seasons. The dates would be September 9, 2017 and September 8, 2018. Willing to travel for 2017 game. Please contact Brad Griffin at if interested.

WR Drills That Establish a Perimeter Blocking Mindset:If you're one of those Baylor-made offenses that subscribe to the "every run is a pass theory," than perimeter blocking may not be a point of emphasis for you. But for the majority of spread offense coaches, teaching receivers to block on the perimeter not only requires a tireless focus on the fundamentals, but also a "want to" mindset that can be cultivated with the use of blocking drills. Stephen F. Austin wide receiver coach Demo Odems spoke exclusively with X&O Labs detailing the three everyday drills he uses to train his receivers on the fundamentals of perimeter blocking. Read the exclusive report here.

Doane University (NAIA - NE): Doane University is looking for a game on either August 26 or September 9, 2017. Please contact Matt Franzen at if interested.
