James Franklin: Penn State signed James Franklin to an extension in less than two months ago. Today, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reported Penn State officials are "preparing" for Texas A&M to make a run at hiring Franklin away should the Aggies part ways with Kevin Sumlin. Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News referred to this as the "first sighting of the Green-Backed Sextonbird" of the season. Well played, Cecil (and you too Jimmy).

Dabo Swinney: So Dabo will be in Tuscaloosa on Saturday....

Humboldt State: Clarifying our note from yesterday, although the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors voted in full support of HSU athletics, the University has final say and we understand continues to withhold commitment to maintaining football until additional outside funds are raised.

Arkansas: For years it has been widely reported Bret Bielema's buyout was over $15 million. That is incorrect. We explain in plain english. Arkansas, 2-3, has wins over FAMU & New Mexico State, losses vs TCU, Texas A&M and South Carolina. Road ahead: at Alabama, Auburn, at Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina, at LSU, Mississippi State and Missouri.

#WarmUp: Lou Holtz is still bitter, Fleck shares interesting UM vs. MSU rivalry comments, re-live long Montana to Rice touchdowns. Thursday's One Minute Warm Up.

New Research: 3 Necessities in Defending RPOs from 4-2-5 Structures - The entire premise of an RPO offense lies in its ability to slow down defenses post-snap. Which is why it’s important for DCs to give their players some comfortability to play fast by building adjustments within their system. It’s a philosophy that Laguna Hills High School (CA) defensive coordinator Marty Albert has used to curtail the big play potential that RPOs present. In his exclusive X&O Labs clinic report, he details the three methods he uses in his 4-2-5 scheme to defend RPOs-- muddying the QB’s read, altering B gap responsibility and blitzing the read defender. Click here to read the report.
