The Scoop - Tuesday December 13, 2016

Tuesday December 13, 2016

Wake Forest: An investigation has found that a Wake Forest radio announcer, and former assistant coach for over a decade, had been sharing confidential game plan information with opponents.

7 questions you should ask yourself before taking another job this off season

Temple: Temple has officially announced Geoff Collins as their new head coach. More on his hire here. A press conference has been scheduled for 11am Eastern tomorrow to formally introduce Collins.

Mike Elko: Sources tell FootballScoop there have been overtures from other programs; but sources tell us Wake Forest defensive coordinaor Mike Elko is likely to wind up in South Bend.

FAU: The assistant pool at FAU is $1.7 million reports Tim Reynolds of the AP. USA Today's salary database lists the pool for this past year at FAU at just under $1 million.

BYU: Kalani Sitake noted today that he expects his full staff to remain intact; but added that he expects Ed Lamb will receive another head coaching opportunity one day.

Richmond: Tennessee Chattanooga head coach Russ Huesman has been offered the Richmond head coaching position reports Paul Shahen, who adds that UTC has "made a lucrative counter offer." Shahen reports that a decision is expected soon. We'll keep you posted...

Lane Kiffin: Lane's buyout at FAU is $2.5 million in year one, reduces $500,000 each subsequent year reports Brett McMurphy.

Column from today's presser: At FAU, Lane Kiffin swears the fourth time's the charm.

FAU: On SportsCenter just now, Lane Kiffin was asked if Steve Sarkisian would be his offensive coordinator at FAU. Kiffin's response was, "I don't know where thats at. ... I do not know what direction Coach Saban is going there. I'll be back there tonight and for staff meeting tomorrow morning...we'll figure some things out there."

South Florida: In a clear signal that much of Charlie Strong's staff will come from Texas, Steve Berkowitz reports USF assistant pool will be $1.66M in year one, $2.25M in year 2 and $3.4M thereafter (guys from Texas will still be getting their checks from UT for first year or two).

FAU: Lane Kiffin's deal is 5 years, beginning at $950,000 reports Tim Reynolds of the AP.

South Florida: Joey Knight reports Charlie Strong's deal is 5 years, worth a total of $9.8 million. Relevant to Texas... the first two years, Charlie will only receive $1 million per year. Relevant; because half of that amount will be reduced from what Texas owes Charlie. Thus, rather than Texas paying Charlie $10 million over the next two years, now they will only pay him $9 million. For those counting...Charlie pocketed $15 million while at Texas. If he stay at USF all 5 years, he will have made $34 million over 8 years.

Delaware: Richmond head coach Danny Rocco has now finalized his deal with Delaware reports Marc Davis. Sources tell FootballScoop Delaware offered him the job weeks ago but he wanted to finish his run with Richmond before officially deciding.

Baylor: Sources confirm to FootballScoop, Temple defensive coordinator Phil Snow will join Matt Rhule's staff at Baylor in the same capacity. Snow is a Finalist for FootballScoop Defensive Coordinator of the Year.

Baylor: Cedar Ridge High School head coach Shawn Bell will join Matt Rhule's staff is the report out of Waco. Bell has now confirmed the news. Bell is a former Baylor quarterback who has served as a high school head coach the past seven seasons.

Western Kentucky: Word we are hearing is that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford is likely to be announced tomorrow as the new head coach at Western Kentucky. Pete Thamel first reported that Sanford was expected to get the job.

Course Correction: Signing day is approaching. Are you going to sign a player that you worry may have behavior problems? You put too many resources into recruiting that kid to leave his future to chance. Take a smarter approach. Course Correction Behavioral Interventions, Inc. exists to prevent the problem behavior of an individual. From information about the player and his past, we can develop a plan that makes precise environmental adjustments designed to prevent problems and teach new, desirable habits. Missouri: Brick Haley will make $400,000 under a one year contract at Missouri reports Dave Matter.

Missouri Western (D-II): William Chrisman HS (Kansas City, MO) head coach Scorpio Horn is leaving to become the defensive line at Missouri Western.

Northern Illinois: Athletic director Sean Frazier noted during his annual Frazier's Cornerrelease that he was "encouraged to see the 2016 football team come together to win four of its last five games," before acknowledging that there were five new coaches on staff, including two new coordinators. He went on to note later that, "In short, I'm confident going forward we're going to do what we need to do to get after it on offense, defense and special teams.
