Texas: Longtime Texas high school coach -- and father of former Longhorns wide receivers Jordan and Jaxon Shipley -- is likely to join Tom Herman's staff in some capacity, according to Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods. Shipley previously served as director of high school relations and on-campus recruiting under Mack Brown before returning to the high school ranks at Belton over the past three years. Shipley announced his retirement from coaching last month.

Art Briles: Art Briles dropped his libel lawsuit against Baylor on Wednesday, KWTX-TV reported. "I'm sorry we didn't get this resolved for all the Baylor people, so they could know the truth," his lawyer said. "A man can only carry so much."

247Sports: Through its parent company CBS Sports, 247 announced Wednesday it has acquired rival Scout Media. More on the sale.

Texas A&M: Sources tell FootballScoop Ron Cooper is a strong candidate to fill the defensive backs position at Texas A&M. Cooper served as defensive coordinator (and then interim head coach) at FIU this past season. He previously coached defensive backs at South Florida, for the Tampa Bay Bucs, LSU (with John Chavis), South Carolina and more. Don't believe a deal is in place yet; but hear it could be within the next day or so.

Villanova (FCS): Villanova University is currently accepting applications for a volunteer football video/operations quality control position for Spring 2017. We are seeking candidates who are looking to gain experience working within a Division 1 football program. The position will assist with duties assigned by the Video Coordinator and Director of Football Operations. Primary duties will include filming practices and games as well as assisting with film and data breakdown. Candidates with strong communication and computer skills are preferred. This is a non-coaching position. Qualifications: (1) Must be have completed a Bachelor’s degree program; (2) Experience competing in intercollegiate athletics or (3) experience working in a collegiate football program. This position does not provide any stipend, benefits, or housing. However, volunteers will receive experience working in a Division I program, have the potential to earn a paid position, earn recommendations for future career opportunities, and receive internship credit, if applicable. Nebraska: Former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant secondary coach Daniel Bullocks will be the final member of Mike Riley's staff reports HuskerOnline. Update>Steven Sipple reports that this is not a done deal and that Mike Riley is still interviewing other coaches.

Carolina Panthers: Curtis Fuller is being promoted form assistant defensive backs coach to defensive backs coach, per the Charlotte Observer.

VMI: Allen Smith, who worked as a football operations assistant with the defense at Duke last season, has joined the VMI staff coaching the defensive line, per source. Prior to joining the Duke staff, Smith was a defensive graduate assistant at Appalachian State.

Cleveland Browns: The Browns recently interviewed former NFL veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia for their vacant quarterbacks position, per Tony Grossi.

Louisiana-Lafayette: Missouri executive associate AD Bryan Maggard will be the new athletics director at Louisiana-Lafayette, sources tell FootballScoop. Read more on AD Scoop.

Slippery Rock (D-II - PA): Slippery Rock University is looking for a defensive graduate assistant. Someone with defensive back playing or coaching experience. This position will be responsible for coaching the cornerbacks on the field and in meetings. Position starts immediately. Please send resume to

New York Jets: The Jets have hired former Browns defensive line coach Robert Nunn to coach their defensive line.

Montreal Alouettes (Canada): Head coach and offensive coordinator Jacques Chapdelaine has announced his coaching staff as follows; Noel Thorpe assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, Greg Quick senior defensive assistant, Jason Hogan will move from his role as offensive quality control last season to defensive assistant, Billy Parker retired after 8 years playing defensive back in the CFL and will join the staff as a defensive assistant. Anthony Calvillo will remain the QBs coach, Andre Bolduc will move from assistant special teams coach to RBs, Paul Charbonneau will shift from coaching the RBs to coaching the OL. Newly hired Justin Chapdelaine will coach the WRs. We understand that the club is still interviewing special teams coaches and they expect to have an announcement soon.

Cal: Jerry Azzinaro, who spent the last four seasons in the NFL and is a former Oregon assistant, has joined the staff coaching the defensive line.

Miami Dolphins: Adam Caplan reports that James Willis has interviewed for the Dolphins assistant defensive line job. Willis is a former defensive assistant with the Saints

Rex Ryan: Ryan shared with the New York Daily News that he is not interested in defensive coordinator jobs and will only consider getting back into coaching for "a real situation."
