Tampa Bay Storm (Arena): The Storm have announced Ron James as the new head coach. James spent the 2016 season with the Portland Steel and he brings over 30 years of coaching experience to Tampa Bay and was named the 2012 AFL head oach of the year

Grambling State (FCS): Head coach Broderick Fobbs has signed an agreement on an extension through December 31, 2018. Fobbs' current deal was set to expire at the end this coming December. The deal guarantees Fobbs $195,000 annually, the same salary he's made since 2013 according to Fobbs opted to not accept a salary increase due to financial challenges being faced at the school. He can make an additional $87,500 for various acomplisments, and Grambling has also provided a salary bonus pool of $95,000 to use on his assistant coaching staff.

Rice: Athletic director Joe Karlgaard made it clear recently that he isn't planning to make a change mid-season. David Bailiff's squad just won their first game of the season (vs Prairie View A&M) and is coming off of a 5-7 season last year (after three consecutive bowl berths and a conference title in 2013). Karlgaard added, "I guess I'm disappointed in where we've gone as an industry with the mid-season evaluations." Bailiff is in his 10th season at the helm in Houston.

Head coaches' compensation: USA Today has updated their database; and yep, a lot of guys (at this level) make a lot of money.

Dixie State (D-II - UT): Dixie State University is officially joining the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Dixie State will compete in the Pacific West Conference this season before joining the RMAC in 2018.
