Monday: Coaches Quick Hits

Hamline University (D3): Hamline is looking to hire a defensive coordinator.

UNLV: We hear UNLV will likely talk with Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.

Rick Stockstill: MTSU head coach Rick Stockstill said today that Memphis has requested to talk, but that he has not interviewed and is fully concentrating on this week's opponent.

Jon Gruden: According to ProFootballTalk, "Gruden has signed an exclusive multi-year contract extension with ESPN and Monday Night Football. Though the release is silent in this regard, the implicit message is that Gruden is off the market, not only for other broadcasting jobs but also for coaching jobs. Then again, it's possible that another term of the contract -- compensation -- has prompted ESPN to pay Gruden the same amount of money he'd make as an NFL coach."

Adrian College: Our sources tell us that Jim Deere has been promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach at Adrian College.

2009 FootballScoop Coaches of the Year powered by Muscle Milk: Finalists will be announced starting December 1st. All coaches that win must be nominated by other college coaches or DFO's. Please email us this week with your nominations. The categories are as follows: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, QB Coach, RB Coach, WR Coach, OL Coach, Defensive Backs Coach, LB Coach, DL Coach, D1-AA Coordinator, D2 Coordinator, D3 Coordinator, Head Strength Coach, and Director of Football Operation (New in 2009). Send us your email this week!

UNLV: Our sources tell us that two names that will be connected with the UNLV head coaching search are California offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and Notre Dame assistant Rob Ianello. Ianello serves as the assistant head coach / wide receivers coach / recruiting coordinator. Although we haven't heard Oregon State defensive coordinator Mark Banker's name yet, our guess is that UNLV will likely talk with Banker. We will be working to find out more on the UNLV job throughout the week.

Notre Dame: According to Monday edition of the Chicago Sun Times newspaper, "If athletic director Jack Swarbrick decides Weis' Notre Dame career is over after his fifth season, a source said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz will be in the mix to replace him. The source said Stoops has told confidants he would be interested in talking to the Irish."

Portland State: Portland State athletic director Torre Chisholm on Sunday said he is disappointed with the lack of progress the Vikings' football program has made in three seasons under Jerry Glanville, but that he hasn't decided whether to fire the head coach or bring him back for the final season of his four-year contract.

Chisholm said widespread speculation that he already was committed to ousting Glanville was inaccurate. He repeated that he planned to meet with Glanville Monday to discuss the program and that any decisions wouldn't be made until at least then.

"At this point, I haven't ruled anything out. We're committed to being a successful athletic program. Obviously, we can't ever achieve that if football is where it currently is, so we have to figure out how we make football better and how we make it a competitive program in the Big Sky."

Glanville is scheduled to earn $180,000 next season.
