Tuesday November 24, 2009

Let us know what you are hearing. Send us an email this morning. Since 1999, FootballScoop has served as the premier source for coaching job information.

Tuesday: Coaches Quick Hits

Furman: Our sources tell us Furman head coach Bobby Lamb is expected to return.

Tampa Bay Bucs: We are hearing the Bucs offensive coordinator Greg Olson has signed a contract extension. Olson was serving in the last year of his contract.

Youngstown State: Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini isn't saying whether he is or isn't interested in the vacant head coaching job at Youngstown State in Ohio. Asked about the job after Tuesday's practice, Pelini said, "I'm not even thinking about that right now. I'm thinking of Colorado."

The 44-year-old Pelini is the older brother of Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini. The Pelinis are natives of Youngstown, and Carl earned his undergraduate degree at Youngstown State. The school is looking for a successor to Jon Heacock. The Vindicator newspaper of Youngstown reported Heacock's salary as $125,000 a year. Pelini makes $208,360 at Nebraska.

Memphis: ‘‘The one thing I want to make clear - absolutely, positively clear - is we are not going to do anything before the last (regular-season) game,'' AD RC Johnson said. ‘‘It's not fair to the coaches and it's not fair to the players.''

Bethune-Cookman: We hear St. Paul's College defensive coordinator Kevin Grigsby is interesting in the Bethune-Cookman job. Grigsby is a Bethune-Cookman graduate.

Itawamba CC: We are hearing ICC has talked to several candidates on the phone, but formal interviews will begin soon for the head coaching job.

Let us know what is going on in the California JC's. Send us an email.

West Alabama: Our sources tell us that defensive coordinator Andy Greening has left the program. We hear Greening will be joining the staff at Northwest JC in Mississippi.

Livingstone College: We hear interim head coach Eric Brown has interviewed.

Livingstone College: We have heard that several interviews took place on Monday. Our source tells us that Cheyney University wide receivers coach Chris Roulac along with Linwood Ferguson are 2 candidates certainly in the mix. Ferguson is the former OC at Eastern Kentucky.

Bethune-Cookman: We hear Norfolk State's Jeff Parker and Linwood Ferguson are interested in the Bethune-Cookman job. Our sources tell us a ton of people are applying for this job.

DePauw University: Robby Long has been announced as the new head coach. Long's "interim" tag has been taken off after doing a great job this season.

Evangel University: Our sources are telling us that Western State defensive coordinator Brenton Illum has just accepted this morning the head coaching job at Evangel University.

Memphis: Our sources close to Memphis and Fred Smith tell us that Memphis is close to offering the head coaching job to Washington Redskins assistant Jerry Gray. We hear Gray is interviewing today and the candidates will know a decision tomorrow. Another source has informed us that Gray is currently in a meeting with Memphis AD RC Johnson.

North Texas: "I really don't know," Dodge said of what his future at UNT might be. "I will sit down with coach Villarreal (AD) when the season is over with. At this point I don't know. He will let me know."

Kentucky: "As far as whether I'm coming back next year, I'm like that old Energizer bunny; I might need some batteries recharged, but we'll talk about that at the appropriate time," Rich Brooks said.

But Brooks became irate when another reporter tried to follow up on the issue.

"You know what? I'm not going to answer anything about that anymore," Brooks said. "I'm going to talk about Tennessee. None of that junk. This is not the appropriate forum. We have a huge game with a lot at stake, and we'll address those issues at the appropriate time."

By the way, has anybody noticed the outstanding job Brooks and his staff have done this season? We have!
