High School Scoop

Jackson State: Offensive coordinator James Woody will not return. Offensive line coach Bruce Johnson will not return.

Memphis: We are hearing that Washington Redskins secondary coach Jerry Gray has a few names he is interested in hiring if he does indeed accept the Memphis head coaching job. Gray, who is a former Texas Longhorn player, would like to hire Major Applewhite (Texas running backs / assistant head coach) as his OC. Our sources tell us Applewhite is not interested in the job. We do hear that Gray could offer a defensive job to former Kent State head coach (1991-93) Pete Cordelli. Cordelli last coached on the college level at Western Michigan in 2002. We are also hearing that Gray will offer a position to Washington Redskins defensive quality control Arthur Smith. Lambuth's Hugh Freeze could also land a position on Gray's staff.

Buffalo Bills: The Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan.

Bethune-Cookman: We have heard Carl Crennel's name mentioned.
