The Scoop

Thursday January 7, 2010

Florida: We hear it's a done deal. Our source tells us Edwards will coordinate the defense.

Florida: FootballScoop has learned that Florida has interviewed Miami Dolphins linebackers coach George Edwards. Our source tells us Edwards will definitely not be with the Dolphins next season. We hear Edwards is close to a deal that could include the title of "co-defensive coordinator" with the Gators.

Virginia: We hear Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer interviewed today for the OC position.

Fort Lewis: We hear defensive coordinator Cesar Rivas will likely be promoted to head coach.

New Mexico Highlands: We hear former Fort Lewis head coach Ed Rifilato will be the defensive coordinator.

Cincinnati: We are hearing that Phil Zacharias was on campus today at Cincinnati and will be joining the staff. Our source tells us Stripling, Banks, Elder, Mahoney, Bajakian, and Jancek were all on campus today.

Akron: Former Syracuse defensive line coach Derrick Jackson has been hired in the same capacity at Akron.

Sam Houston State: Ben Beasley has been retained and will coach the safeties. Former Central Missouri wide receivers coach Jeff Conway has been added to the staff.

UAB: Our source tells us UAB will promote video GA Charles Marrow to defensive grad assistant.

Utah State: Jovan Bouknight has indeed been promoted to wide receivers coach. Administrative offensive GA Ryan Zimmerman will now move into Bouknight's previous role as offensive grad assistant. Dave Baldwin is moving from wide receivers to quarterbacks.

Tennessee: Lane Kiffin has yet to hire a special teams coordinator / running back coach. ESPN reported two weeks ago that Tampa Bay Bucs special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia would be joining the Tennessee staff. We hear the delay could all have to do with Jon Gruden. Our source tells us that if Gruden lands the Cleveland Browns' head coaching job, he really wants Bisaccia to join him on the staff. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next several days.

Buffalo: We hear former Cincinnati staff associate Mike Daniels has accepted a position coaching job at Buffalo.

Bethel University (TN): We hear Willie Tillman will be the new defensive coordinator.
