Sad news to share this afternoon as Coach John Rushing has died unexpectedly. Coach Rushing coached safeties the past two seasons at Arizona. He previously coached at Oregon State, for the Los Angeles Rams, the Green Bay Packers, at Utah State, Montana State, Boise State and at Willamette. Please keep Coach and his family in your prayers.

Denver: Broncos running backs coach Curtis Modkins will not coach Sunday. This will be his second game he has missed after testing positive for Covid.

Tarleton State (FCS - TX): Tarleton has set its first schedule in moving from Division II to FCS, including its first game with an FBS opponent. More here.

Purdue: The University lost their appeal. Jeff Brohm will not be in stadium Saturday.

Jackson State (FCS - MS): Not even fully on the job yet, Deion Sanders was dealt some NCAA recruiting sanctions on Friday.

Ron Rivera: Coach Rivera stated today that his cancer treatments are going extremely well. His final treatment will be this Monday. #BeatCancer

Army-Navy: The game is still on, but the pandemic has forced a major change in plans.

Rutgers: Defensive line coach Jim Panagos will be on the disabled list this season after undergoing knee replacement surgery. More here.

ULL-App State: This game, originally scheduled for Oct. 7 but postponed due to COVID, has been rescheduled to Dec. 4. It will remain in Boone and ESPN2 will televise.

Friday Night Games: A handful of college games on tonight, with one Big Ten match up on later today and the rest of the league making their return tomorrow night. Here's what is on tap: Jacksonville State at FIU at 7pm EST on ESPN3. Tulsa at South Florida at 7:30pm EST on ESPN. Illinois at Wisconsin at 8pm EST on Big Ten Network. Finally,
Louisiana-Lafayette (who will be wearing special unis to honor their late coach DJ Looney) will face UAB at 8pm EST on CBSSN.

St. Thomas (FCS - MN):St. Thomas is looking to fill a game in Week 1 of 2021 (9/4/21) & 2022 (9/3/22). FCS and NAIA programs are encouraged to inquire. Interested programs can e-mail the staff at football@stthomas.edu.

San Jose State: SJSU is looking to hire for two key positions on staff. First one is Director of Football Operations. Salary is $57,888. Interested candidates for the position may email resume to Ben.Thienes@sjsu.edu and apply at this link. The second position is Football Video Coordinator. Salary is $51,666. For that position, candidates can email resume to Cam.Radford@sjsu.edu and apply at this link. It's the middle of the season, so out of respect for the staff, do not reach out to anyone on staff besides the emails listed above, especially the head coach. Texas: The Texas band and university administration are locked in a game of chicken over “The Eyes of Texas.”

Coastal Carolina: Coastal Carolina is seeking applicants for a Director of Creative Media position. This is a full-time salary and benefitted position. Salary will be determined based on experience. Castleton (D-III – VT): Castleton University is looking for a game for week 4 (Sept. 25) of the 2021 season. Castleton will reciprocate with a game in the same week of the 2022 season. Home and Away scheduling can be open to discussion. Schools in the New England region as well as New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania are preferred. WAC: Once college football’s top mid-major conference, the WAC could be eyeing a comeback.

Masters of Sports Administration: Upper Iowa’s MSA degree provides learners with the current theories, concepts, and learning models necessary to assume administrative, coaching and leadership roles in high school, higher education and sports business settings. The online degree is available with emphasis in Sports Management or Coaching & Leadership Education.

Southern Miss: Southern Miss will play with an interim interim head coach on Saturday. Not a typo.

Lincoln University (D-II - Oakland, CA): Lincoln University in Oakland, CA has announced the hiring of John Bowers as linebackers coach and Director of Player Personnel. Bowers recently served as the outside linebackers and special teams coordinator at James Madison (FCS - VA). Prior to JMU, he was a recruiting assistant at The Ohio State for the 2013 season and had previously been an assistant coach at Bothell HS (WA). He has spent his coaching career at both the high school and college ranks, including college stops at Western Washington, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Austin Peay, Shepherd College and Washington & Lee.

Lane Kiffin: After throwing three interceptions to an Arkansas walk-on, helping him earn a scholarship, Lane Kiffin shared that “most coaches would be too pissed” to congratulate the kid on a job well done.
