Building an “EAT” Concept Menu for Pre-Snap Access Throws:While some coaches call it the “gift” route, at Alabama A&M it’s known as an “EAT” build-in, where the QB and single receiver select the best quick game element to complement run action. It can be used as part of an RPO package or coupled with quick game. And while some programs keep it rudimentary, QB Coach Jason Mai teaches up to 5 route progressions that are paired with one-word calls in his tempo operation. The progression is simple; QB identifies coverage, communicates the route, then makes the post-snap decision to either execute the pass or run element of the concept. In an exclusive clinic report for X&O Labs, Coach Mai details their “EAT” concept with illustrations and video. Go here to start reading.
