Please join us in praying for the family of longtime college coach Don Horton who recently passed away after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. Horton had coaching stops at Boston College, NC State among others.

Former longtime Rhode Island (FCS) assistant coach Dick Downey passed away over the weekend. Please join us in keeping his family and friends in your prayers.

Baylor: Associate AD for football operations Colin Shillinglaw and administrative staffer Tom Hill have been let go in the wake of the Art Briles scandal according to Dan Wolken of USA Today.

Texas Wesleyan (NAIA): Texas Wesleyan is looking for one game Sept. 16 or 23 in 2017 and to fill two games on either Sept. 8, 15 or 22 in 2018. Contact head coach Joe Prud'homme at if interested.

NBC: John Ourand is reporting that Mike Florio has signed a long-term extension with NBC.

Minnesota-Crookston (D-II): The University of Minnesota-Crookston is looking for a defensive intern coach. Previous experience with linebackers is preferred, but not required. This is a seasonal position and will have all the responsibilities, expectations, and hours of a full-time position coach. $1500 for the season plus room and meals provided. Chowan (D-II - NC): Chowan is looking to hire an assistant coach - restricted earnings (defensive line or defensive backs). The selected individual will assist with the coaching of a position, with all aspects of game and practice preparations, evaluate personnel as well as mentor and monitor the student-athletes progress on and off-the-field; and, follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the NCAA Division II, the CIAA and Chowan University. The selected individual will be held accountable to assist in the recruiting and retaining of quality student-athletes for the University and the football program and performing other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach. Compensation will be $10,000 based on hourly rate of $8 and 1,250 hours annually. No housing or meals included. Start date will be August 1, 2016. Bachelor degree required as is a background check. Prior coaching or playing experience at college or high school level desired as is computer and Hudl proficiency. New Orleans Saints: The Saints have hired two new area scouts in Steve Malin (formerly with the Giants) and CJ Leak (previously with the Bills).

Cleveland Browns: A total of six members of the Browns organization have taken on new titles including; Ken Kovash (VP, player personnel), Mike Cetta (director of scouting), Kevin Meers (director of research and strategy), Chisom Opara (director of player personnel), Dan Saganey (director of scouting), and Bobby Vega (director of scouting).

CBS: Verne Lundquist will step down as the network's lead college football voice after 2016 and will be replaced by Brad Nessler. Read more here.

Lindsey Wilson (NAIA – KY): Lindsey Wilson College is accepting applications for an entry-level assistant football coach. There is some flexibility with the position group. We are open to applicants on both sides of the ball. Responsibilities include on field coaching, recruiting, video editing, assisting with the strength and conditioning program, and other duties within the football program. Compensation includes housing, meals, and a $500 monthly stipend. There is a chance that graduate level courses could also be included. Baldwin Wallace (D-III - OH): Baldwin Wallace University is seeking an intern football coach, with an anticipated start date of August 1 st . This position is available to those aspiring to get into the college coaching profession. The intern position will assist in an offensive coaching role, have a recruiting territory, and be immersed in the day to day activities of a DIII football program. The intern assistant coach will be responsible for assisting a coordinator and / or position coach with different aspects of on the field coaching and game day assignments. This position includes no housing or meals at this time. Playing experience, along with video editing is preferred but not required. Strong communication and computer skills are required. Illinois: Per source, Lindenwood (D-II - IL) graduate assistantBrett Nelson, a former Louisville quarterback, has been hired as an offensive graduate assistant for the Illini.

Siena Heights (NAIA - MI): Sources tell FootballScoop that head coach Jim Lyall will be announcing his retirement later today. Lyall, who led the Adrian College (D-III - MI) program from 1990-2009, has coached at the college level for over 40 years, including 24 seasons as a head coach. At Adrian, Lyall compiled a record of 103-92-1 before taking helping start the Siena Heights program from scratch. Per source, assistant head coach / defensive coordinator / inside linebackers coach Matt Kohn will serve as the interim head coach for the 2016 season.

Western New Mexico (D-II): Western New Mexico University (D2-Lone Star Conference) is searching for a defensive backs coach. This is a restricted earnings position that will include a $600 per month contract over 10 months and a dorm room.
