Long-time San Francisco 49ers assistant Bill McPherson died Tuesday at the age of 88. McPherson, who primarily coached defensive line and linebackers and served as defensive coordinator several seasons, earned five Super Bowl rings with the 49ers. Kentucky: Director of football operations Frank Buffano has accepted a new role as safeties coach Mark Stoops announced tdoay. Buffano has served as DFO at Kentucky the past seven seasons. Buffano previously coached secondary and linebackers at Youngstown State from 2010-12.
SEC: Commissioner Greg Sankey said Wednesday the conference is "full steam ahead" for SEC media days in July, but cautioned he was "full steam ahead" for the SEC tournament last Thursday and we all know how that ended.
Youngstown State (FCS - OH): Ashton Youboty, who spent last season as a senior defensive assistant on the Wisconsin staff, has been named corners coach. Prior to Wisconsin, Youboty was part of the staff at Miami.
Michigan: Defensive coordinator Don Brown is due a $600,000 retention bonus on April 1, according to MLive. Brown, who signed a new three-year deal last February, is set to make $1.1 million this fall, and his salary will jump to $1.7 million in 2021. Also, offensive line coach Ed Warinner will receive a $25,000 retention bonus for being employed at UM on April 1st as well.
