Please join us in offering our condolences to the family and friends of Richard Beal, who died unexpectedly on Monday at 57. A Wesleyan graduate, Beal coached for more than 20 seasons at UMass, Columbia, Wesleyan, Tufts and Colorado School of Mines, and served as the head coach at Stonehill College.

High school football: One of the nation's most successful high school coaches has been fired after two games at his new program.

Eligibility: USC commit who moved from California to Georgia to play his senior season, now potentially ineligible.

Houston: Saturday's game vs North Texas has been cancelled. Further proof, in this Covid era, no team has been as unlucky as Houston. In making the announcement, North Texas offered the following: There were a total of four positive tests this week. Those people are in isolation and their close contacts have been identified. The succeeding contact tracing of those positive tests left the football program unable to field a team for a game this week.

Recruiting: The NCAA has extended the dead period through the end of the year, and Lincoln Riley is not happy about it.

Ottawa (NAIA - AZ): Ottawa University Arizona has an immediate opening for an Offensive Graduate Assistant Football Coach, preferably with experience coaching Running Backs. College coaching and recruiting experience is preferred. Applicants must be accepted into the graduate program with a 3.0 GPA. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, equipment organization, practice planning, coaching a position group, leading meetings, film break down, player evaluation and recruiting, promotion and marketing of the program, and assisting in general day to day football operations. This position pays full tuition, a meal plan, as well as a healthy stipend. Ohio State: Buckeyes AD Gene Smith shares that Ryan Day will take a 5% pay cut (which amounts to about $270k based on his new contract).

MAC: The Mid-American Conference is expected to vote on a possible fall return later this week, per report.

Tyler (JC - TX): Tyler JC has hired for Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Rich Moran to coach their offensive line, per source.

Georgia Southern: Butler Benton has now officially joined the program as director of player personnel. Benton has previous coaching experience at Michigan State where he served as recruiting operations coordinator.

Lewis & Clark (D-III - OR): Former South Carolina running back and Gamecock staff member Marcus Lattimore has been hired to help coach the running backs and also serve in a mentor and life coaching role with the program, The State shares.

Ohio State: Facing a projected $107 million budget deficit, Ohio State will eliminate 25 full-time positions and implement furloughs or pay cuts for other staff positions. The Buckeyes will not eliminate any sports, the school said.

Wake Forest: Wake Forest's game with Campbell has been moved from Oct. 9 to Oct. 2, and the Notre Dame game scheduled for this Saturday was pushed to Dec. 12.

Missouri Valley Conference: Commissioner Doug Elgin will retire after this year after leading the conference since 1988. Parker Executive Search will handle the Missouri Valley's search for a replacement.

South Florida: Out of an abundance of caution, USF is pausing on field activities pending the results of additional team testing and contract tracing. The Bulls played Notre Dame last weekend, and yesterday the Irish announced a few positive tests on their squad. USF added that both prior to their game and Monday after all USF players tested negative.
