Thoughts and prayers go out to the Washington & Jefferson (D-III - PA) program which lost a player early this morning after a senseless act of violence off campus.
Utah State: Gary Andersen has done an excellent job improving his program and today was rewarded for that with an extension through the 2018 season. His base salary is about $600,000; but he can earn up to $765,000 annually with incentives. An important part of Andersen's new agreement calls for "continuing" annual increases for his staff. Although there is buy-out language in the agreement, don't look for Andersen to leave Logan anytime soon. Sources close to the program confirm to us that he is very content where he is.
Nebraska: University chancellor Harvey Perlman has confirmed that Shawn Eichorst has officially been named athletic director. Eichorst has a 5 year deal with a base salary of $973,000. If he stays the entire length of the contract Eichorst will collect an additional $750,000
Miami: President Donna Shalala has appointed senior associate athletic director Blake James as the acting director of athletics.
Nebraska: Steve Sipple of Husker Extra reports that Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst is a "leading candidate" to become athletic director at Nebraska. Update> ESPN's Brett McMurphy is reporting the Eichorst has now resigned from Miami and will be named AD at Nebraska.
