Former Troy State University head coach, and former Auburn assistant Tom Jones has passed away. Please keep his family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Ferrum (D-III - VA): Pete Shaw, who spent the past ten seasons at Ferrum College, has accepted the head coaching job at Colt's Neck HS (NJ). 

Central Oklahoma (D-II): The school has announced the hiring of Jason Smelser as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. He spent three seasons on the Henderson State staff, the last two as linebackers coach/strength & conditioning coordinator. 

Texas: In their new book "My Conference Can Beat Your Conference," Paul Finebaum and Gene Wojchieckowski write that Texas boosters were willing to offer Nick Saban a $15 million signing bonus and a contract worth $100 million-plus, before incentives, according to an advanced copy obtained by "Texas was dead serious about trying to money-whip Saban," the pair writes. The book corroborates reports by this website and others back in December on the seriousness of Texas' pursuit of Saban. 

The College at Brockport (D-III - NY): The College at Brockport is seeking applications for a part-time (10 Month) coaching position (Defensive Backs). Illinois: Longtime Maryland offensive line coach Tom Brattan will be the Illini's offensive line coach, per source. Brattan began coaching offensive line at William & Mary in 1984 and has previously worked at Northwestern and Stanford in addition to Maryland.

Purdue: Purdue has hired Austin Schaffer as a recruiting grad assistant. Schaffer was a recruiting intern at Cincinnati last year.

Missouri Western (D-II): At Missouri Wester, we hear that defensive line coach Wes Bell has been promoted to defensive coordinator, offensive line graduate assistant Ryan Olson has been promoted to tight ends coach. Also, former Arkansas Tech graduate assistant Josh Jones has been hired to coach the weakside linebackers.

Augsburg (D-III - MN): Augsburg College is looking for a part time wide receiver or defensive backs coach. This is a seasonal position that pays $3,000 with NO other benefits. The ideal candidate would be local and available for all practices. Please send resume to No phone calls please.

South Dakota Mines (D-II): South Dakota Mines has an opening for an offensive assistant (stipend) for the upcoming 2014 season. Responsibilities will include coaching a position group, special teams coaching responsibilities, video breakdown, video editing, and recruiting.
