Three stages that every championship team goes through (Skip Holtz)

Skip Holtz logged stops as a head coach at the college level at UConn, East Carolina, South Florida and Louisiana where he compiled a 152-121 overall record with two outright conference titles (ECU in 2008 and 2009) and a number of division titles.

Since leaving Louisiana Tech following the 2021 season, Holtz has been serving as the head coach of the Birmingham Stallions, where his teams have become the standard of the upstart USFL and now UFL.

In the Stallions two seasons as part of the USFL, before the merger with the XFL to create the UFL, Holtz led the organization to back-to-back championships.

Most of the way through the UFL's first season, Holtz has the Stallions sitting at 6-0.

Between the two leagues, Holtz is a remarkable 23-3 leading the Stallions with two titles, and a possible third on the way.

With a resume that stretches back to the late 1980's, along with his experience growing up living and breathing football alongside his Hall of Fame father, Holtz knows more than his fair share of what championship caliber teams look and act like.

After his team's win on Saturday, which clinched them a playoff spot, Skip shared some of that wisdom, talking about the three stages of a championship team.

"In order for us to get to where we want to be, there are three stages that a championship team goes through."

"One, is they have to learn how to compete. They've got to come together, give up their individualism, and learn how to compete together as a team, because everyone in this league has talent. I think they've done a great job of that."

"The second on is you have to learn how to win. Just not turning the ball over, and not giving up big plays and we have seven other areas that we try to follow, and I think that they have learned how to win."

"I think the third, and the hardest, step that this team has done a really good job of is you've got to learn how to handle winning. There's a lot that goes with that, and complacency is one of the number one things."

"We live in a society where, with success on Twitter, and social media, everyone wants to talk about 'look what he did' and 'look how good these guys are.' That's the luxury that everyone else has. We call it 'The Circus' that's what's going on outside the lines and we can't get involved in The Circus."
