That time Mike Leach lured Texas into a diabolical trap (Tom Herman)

Heading into the 1999 Red River Shootout, Texas was largely favored to beat Oklahoma. The teams carried similar records to Dallas -- Texas was 4-2, OU 3-1 -- but the Longhorns were ranked No. 23 in the AP, while the Sooners were unranked. This was Mack Brown's second season at Texas, while OU was just four games into the Bob Stoops era.

Oklahoma coaches knew they'd need to manufacture a game to keep the Sooners in the game, and OU offensive coordinator Mike Leach found one. The underdog Sooners jumped out to a surprising 17-0 lead before eventually succumbing to Texas's talent advantage, and UT walked away with a 38-28 win.

But the story of how OU gained that 17-0 lead is a brilliant tale of cunning and deception, told exceptionally by ESPN's Jake Trotter.

I won't spoil it for you here, but it does involve cameos by future Texas head coach Tom Herman, future Texas State head coach Everett Withers, future North Texas head coach Seth Littrell, future UCF head coach Josh Heupel and future ESPN analyst Ahmad Brooks.
