2010 Coaches Quick Hits

Wednesday September 2, 2009

Former NFL head coaches talk about Minnesota OC Jeff Fisch: "If you are discussing a point and disagree, he will show up the next day with a dozen clips supporting his position," Billick said. Said Shanahan: "He's driven. Look at his background, how hard he's worked. Everything he has done, he's done to get himself to be a head football coach. Very few have that kind of commitment." Saban talks special teams: "You know, everybody says in college football, offensive guys can't play on special teams because they might get hurt," Saban said. He went on to call Michael Clayton "one of the best special-teamers we ever had at LSU," and compared him to Julio Jones,. Both were starting wide receivers as freshmen. Now in his sixth NFL season, Clayton refused to come off the field when playing on the kickoff team.

Interesting quote from Boise State special teams coordinator: Brotzman hopes to bounce back from a bit of a sophomore slump on field goals. He was 16-of-18 as a freshman and 17-of-26 as a sophomore. He is a preseason candidate for the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation's top kicker. "Anybody who's come out and watched him knows that that guy deserves to be a Groza candidate going into this season," Choate said. "And now it's on him."

According to Larry Blakeney: "My wife can make soup and it will be good every time, but I never can figure out exactly, you know, the measurements of what she is putting in there. It's sort of that way with a football team. You never know exactly what's going to be the final part of the mixture that makes it all come together."
