Quoting Mack Brown: "The coaches that we hire look at our talent when they come in and say, 'I'm surprised. It's not as good as I thought,'" Brown said. "I say, 'Well, you're going to be surprised on Saturday. They're going to play better than they are.' Since we've got good kids, they play hard every Saturday. They're not flat much. We may not play good, but we're not going to blow games any more because our kids have pride and they are going to play."

Quoting Dan Hawkins: "Nobody ever likes to lose, especially to your rival, but if you don't like to lose, don't play, don't coach, because that's part of it."

Quoting Lane Kiffin: "I think fans will find it neat to watch the chess match between two legends, Monte Kiffin and Norm Chow," Lane Kiffin said. "I think that's pretty intriguing."

GA Tech head coach Paul Johnson not pleased: Some were surprised when Tech coach Paul Johnson laid into his team after Saturday's win over Jacksonville State. He called his players' performance "ragged," said they, "were just not nasty enough," and added, "Maybe we should've knocked the crap out of them in fall camp; they wouldn't drop [the ball] as much."

About Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel: The secret is Dave Steckel. His combativeness, his abrasiveness, his confrontational personality have rubbed off on the players he coaches. Mess up and the consequence is Steckel running right onto the field, stopping everything, yelling loud enough so the words can be heard from sideline to sideline. "He'll kick you right off the field," said linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. "You really don't want to be the center of that conversation." Said defensive end Jacquies Smith: "He's fiery. He's very passionate. You've got no choice but to feel the fire, be very passionate." Said defensive back Carl Gettis: "It's not always pleasant." Said another defensive end, Brian Coulter: "It was frustrating at times. He had his own little rules. He added some things that we didn't like, that we had to adjust to. Link...

Quoting Dick Tomey: After two days of sifting through the wreckage, San Jose State coach Dick Tomey found something positive in the 56-3 loss at USC. "It was a win for us on special teams.''
