Quoting Rich Rodriguez: "I know the players have (wanted it). For the coaches, I think it's pretty exciting if you're going to have something at the end there to play for. But I guess it's going to happen sooner than anticipated, too. I think that probably is the most surprising part, that it's going to happen so quick."

"Either way, the way it works we're going to play them every year, we're going to play Michigan State every year. I'm sure every school will have maybe two rivalries that they say we have to have those no matter how it works out. We have our two there."

Paul Johnson explains Al Groh hiring

Quoting Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder: "People are going to realize that strength of schedule is going to be dynamically different than what it has been."

"Everybody always wants to see everybody play the best people that they can.But what you have to realize is: When we were in the Big Eight Conference, great teams beat up on great teams. Consequently, the results were not always what you would have liked for them to be. You could be an awfully good program and suffer dramatically. It will be a strong conference - as strong a conference as you will find anywhere. There are pluses and minuses to that. Some will prosper, and some will not."

Quoting Lou Holtz: "I'm an old man, and all my life I've said that Notre Dame should remain independent because it's a national school. We played the very best in the country from Texas to Tennessee to Miami of Florida to Southern Cal."

"However, two days ago was the first time I've ever said that I think Notre Dame ought to seriously consider joining the Big Ten. Because what I see happening, I see four or five superconferences."

Quoting Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton: "I don't revel in anyone's failures or those kinds of things. But there's a rulebook and we have to follow the rules. When those schools don't, then there are repercussions for that."

"With the public nature of what was involved at SC. ... if the NCAA had not levied a pretty stiff penalty, I think it would have sent a wrong message to other schools around the country. So I think they had to do that."

"It was a gut check that we needed to have in the NCAA. Thirty scholarships over three years and a two-year postseason ban, those are serious implications."

(on Lane Kiffin going to SC) "I think the reality is he wanted to leave, and I think the reality is he wanted to be at SC. I think he had made up his mind on that for sure, and was going to go there regardless."

"Now, I hope for his own sake he had asked some questions (about the ongoing NCAA investigation), and perhaps he did, but now he'll have to live with that a little bit."

Quoting Joe Paterno: "I told him (Jay Paterno) what this profession is all about. Don't judge it by the good fortune I've had in being able to stay in one place. I told him he might have to move around. But he wanted to coach, and he knew what he was getting into."

Quoting Jay Paterno: "Even at an early age, 5 or 6, I'd get out of bed at 6 in the morning, wander into Dad's den and he'd be watching films of an upcoming opponent. Oh, I'd play with my toys, but the older I got, I started to play less and watch film more."
