2011 Director of Football Operations of the Year The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by SpeedTracs are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. Finalists were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. A panel of coaches, including previous recipients, will determine the the 2011 winner. Votes tallied on this page are considered; however our panel will make the final decision. Voting for this award ends on Tuesday December 13th. Previous winners of the Director of Football Operations of the Year award are Tom Deahn (Temple, 2009) and Mike Kerin (West Virginia, 2010).
Jason Grooms - Ohio University
"You gotta have Grooms on that list. His players love him. His staff loves him. The head coach loves him. And all of us [other Ops. guys] love him." - That quote came from an Ops guy that has worked in the MAC for years. Grooms, the first DFO ever at Ohio, is one of the hardest working guys in the profession. He pours everything he has into his team and is very well liked and respected amongst his peers.
Mike Sinquefield - TCU
"If you're looking to honor a guy that is willing to take the extra time that you need to help you solve a problem and to teach you how to be better at your job, Mike is your guy. I probably wouldn't have lasted this long in my job without a couple of the things that I learned from Sinq." - That was just one of the nice quotes about Mike we received in this process. Head coach Gary Patterson but it short and sweet, "Mike Sinquefield is one of best and hardest working men I've ever worked with."
John Widecan - Cincinnati
"He's not going to like that he was even nominated for this award [he doesn't like the limelight], but John is undoubtedly one of the best guys in the business. If you've ever taken your team to Cincinnati you have seen how prepared and helpful John is." - That one came from an operations expert himself who's been doing this a long, long time. John has been with Cincinnati football for 20 years, and has been the director of football operations for ten + seasons.
