FootballScoop is proud to announce that Clay Jennings and Chad Glasgow (TCU) are the 2010 FootballScoop Defensive Back Coaches of the Year presented by SpeedTracs.
Under the tutelage of corners coach Clay Jennings and safeties coach Chad Glasgow, three TCU defensive backs earned All-Mountain West Conference honors while helping the Horned Frogs lead the nation in total defense and scoring defense.
The Horned Frogs finished 1st nationally in passing defense, third-down defense, and opponent completion percentage. Senior safety Tejay Johnson was recognized as First Team All-MWC, while safety Colin Jones and corner Jason Teague earned Second Team All-MWC honors. The trio combined for 6 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles. TCU allowed just 41 receptions for 20+ yards all season, 11th best in the country. The Horned Frogs finished with 12 interceptions and led the nation in opponent completion percentage (48%).
TCU finished 12-0 and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on January 1st, where the Horned Frogs will play Wisconsin.
The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by SpeedTracs are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. The finalists (Jennings & Glasgow, Marcel Yates - Boise State, Marvin Sanders - Nebraska and Taver Johson & Paul Haynes - Ohio State) were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. A panel of coaches including previous recipients determined the 2010 winners.
Previous winners of the Defensive Backs Coaches of the Year award are Tim Billings (Wake Forest, 2008) and Everett Withers & Troy Douglas (North Carolina, 2009).
