FootballScoop is proud to announce that Ken Collums (Abilene Christian) is the 2010 FootballScoop Division II Coordinator of the Year presented by SpeedTracs.
Under offensive coordinator Ken Collums, the Wildcats offense scored over 30 points in every game this season as they went undefeated in the regular season before losing the quarterfinals. In fact, the Wildcats averaged 43 points per game and racked up 473 yards per game.
In 2010, the ACU offense was extremely efficient. They didn't turn the ball over (8 turnovers, 1st nationally) and quarterback Mitchell Gale led the nation in TD to INT ratio (12.67 to 1) and finished 3rd nationally in passing efficiency. It also didn't hurt that they scored 90 times on offense this year (2nd nationally in Scoring Offense).
ACU head coach Chris Thomsen told FootballScoop, "What Ken has done for our offense over the last six seasons is remarkable. I can't imagine a better coach, both on the field and off. He gets the best from his players and he teaches them to be great leaders. What he did with the QB Mitchell Gale this year (38 TDs / 3 Ints) was really special."
The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by SpeedTracs are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. The finalists (Collums, David Calloway - Texas A&M Kingsville and Adam Dorrel - Northwest Missouri State) were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. A panel of coaches including previous recipients determined the 2010 winners.
Previous winners of the Division II Coordinator of the Year award are Tim Beck (Pitt State, 2008) and Scott Preston (Arkansas Tech, 2009).
