FootballScoop is proud to announce that Nick Rapone (Delaware) is the 2010 FootballScoop Division 1-AA Coordinator of the Year presented by SpeedTracs.
Under defensive coordinator Nick Rapone, the Delaware defense leads the nation in scoring defense (11.5 PPG) and will play for a national championship on January 7th.
The Blue Hens have allowed just 277 yards per game, while making it remarkably difficult for opponents to score inside the red zone. In fact, opponents have scores touchdowns on 16 of 37 (43%) trips in the red zone. Rapone’s defense gained 31 takeaways on the year and limited opponents to just 29% third-down conversions.
Delaware head coach K.C. Keeler told FootballScoop, "Our program is really blessed to have someone like Nick who is not only a tremendous football coach but just a great person and a leader of young men. I know that I'm a better football coach having worked with Nick over the last five years. He is a genuine guy and he is a proud to be a Delaware man. He preaches it and he lives it. I couldn't be happier for him to receive this honor."
Delaware has already won three games in the playoffs, defeating Lehigh, New Hampshire, and Georgia Southern. The Blue Hens will face Eastern Washington for the national championship on January 7th.
The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by SpeedTracs are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football.
