UNLV will wear special helmets to honor victims, survivors, and heroes of Vegas tragedy (alternate)

Following the horrific events of the mass shooting in Vegas, UNLV has revealed a special helmet that they'll be wearing to honor the victims and survivors of tragedy.

A number of UNLV athletics personnel were directly impacted by the shooting, as hockey coach Nick Robone was one of the more than 500 people wounded, and athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois lost a member of his sister-in-law's family. Before the game, a commemorative ceremony honoring the victims and first responders, being called "Heroes Night" is also being planned, according to USA Today.

The helmet is simple matte black with a red tribute ribbon that says "Las Vegas" on it.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and the families impacted by this senseless act of violence. While football is just a game, it can also serve as a rallying point of unity and allow all of us to recognize the incredible heroism displayed by so many this week. We are all extremely proud of our community's response over the last couple of days," AD Reed-Francois said in a statement.

Classy move from the UNLV program.
