Kentucky is moving toward an offensive coordinator hire with two candidates in the lead for the position, sources told FootballScoop on Sunday.
Los Angeles Rams assistant quarterbacks coach Liam Coen and Purdue co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Brohm are the leading candidates to lead the Kentucky offense moving forward, sources said.
A hire is expected in the early part of this week.
Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead was mentioned in another report as a candidate.
Brohm is a well-known name in the Bluegrass State thanks to his ultra-successful quarterback career at Louisville's Trinity High School and the U of L, where he went a combined 63-14 as a starter with 190 touchdown passes. After a near-decade long career as a quarterback in the NFL and CFL, Brohm entered coaching on his older brother Jeff's staff as Western Kentucky's quarterbacks coach. The pair has spent the past four seasons together at Purdue.
Coen has spent the past three seasons with the Rams, and prior to that bounced around the FCS level, serving as the offensive coordinator at Maine and as the pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach at UMass, Brown and Rhode Island.
Mark Stoops moved on from his longtime offensive braintrust in coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw last Sunday. The pair has worked side-by-side for the past eight seasons, from 2013-15 at Cincinnati and 2016 through this year at Kentucky. The Wildcats went 4-6 this season, ranking 11th in the SEC in yards per play and scoring offense.
Is it possible Stoops could lure both? Wouldn't that be something....
