Just when you think you know everything there is to know about the drama that seems to follow accomplished high school coach Rush Propst, new information comes out that proves there's still information to come in the latest chapter of his story.
Back, just a few weeks ago, we shared word that Propst had been officially let go after just one season at Valdosta HS (GA) following a controversial last several months that included a secretly recorded conversation where some illegal requests were made and allegations of NCAA improprieties aimed at Nick Saban and Kirby Smart were mentioned.
As the great Lee Corso says ..."not so fast" on Propst being "officially" out.
Despite the clear audio and national waves that ensued, the school board vote back on April 27th was a close one, resulting in a 5-3 vote to not renew Propst's contract after one season.
However, a school board member, who stood by Propst in that initial vote, made a motion at a board meeting earlier this week to reconsider their decision to terminate the head coach.
A new meeting is scheduled to take place Monday, where one topic on the agenda reads "Revisit non-renewal of head football coach at VHS – Mr. Warren Lee – action required,” according to the AJC.
Just a few votes would have to swing the other way in that meeting for Propst to end up back in the drivers seat the leading the program.
It is worth noting that Valdosta superintendent notes that, while the content of the previously mentioned recording is "extremely concerning," no concrete evidence has been found to date to prove that Propst, nor the booster club, provided any type of financial assistance to families.
The report adds that Propst remains under investigation by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, who has the power to pull teaching credentials.
While this is all being sorted out, the Valdosta program is going through spring practices under the direction of acting head coach Shelton Felton. Felton spent last season at Tennessee as the outside linebackers coach after previously coaching the outside linebackers and defensive line at Akron for a season.
