College coaching veteran Tom Kaufman has landed his first opportunity to lead a college football program after a number of seasons coaching around college football at a number of levels.
Kaufman was recently announced as the new head coach at Marietta (D-III - OH).
Most recently the head coach at Gilmour Academy (OH), a modest sized Catholic school with an enrollment of around 770, Kaufman led the program to the Elite 8 and a school record 12 wins this past fall.
Kaufman has held defensive coordinator roles at Kent State and UT-Chattanooga, and has also served as special teams coordinator at Syracuse, Bowling Green and Eastern Kentucky.
His coaching journey as an assistant includes stops at the major college level at Texas, Kansas, Mississippi State as well as small colleges including University of Chicago (D-III - IL), Case Western Reserve (D-III - OH) and Heidelberg (D-III - OH).
A former linebacker at John Carroll, Kaufman returns to the league in the OAC that he once starred in, earning All Conference honors as a player.
Marietta finished 8-3 last fall under Andy Waddle, who stepped down in early December to become the head coach at Valparaiso (FCS - IN).
