Oftentimes when a baseball team leaves a stadium for a new one, the old one sadly gets torn down to make room for a new parking lot, hotel, or luxury condos.
That wasn't the case with Turner Field in Atlanta, where the Braves played from 1997-2016. When the Braves decided to move venues, Georgia State stepped in to transform the baseball field into their home for Panther football and baseball. This article from the AJC does a great job laying out just how those changes were made.
In total, the changing the stadium from the home of the Braves to the home of Georgia State totaled over $26 million.
Yesterday, players were welcomed into their new locker room at the new Georgia State stadium for the first time, and you can feel their excitement after playing the past seven seasons at the Georgia Dome. It still has that wide-open feel of a baseball locker room, but overall looks very nice.
Now, heading into their eighth season, under first-year head coach Shawn Elliott, Georgia State has a new home and a ton of good energy surrounding the program.
Will be interesting to see how the capitalize on that momentum this fall.
