Video: Hot mic catches official admitting to a premeditated penalty call (officials)

You don't have to be a coach for long to butt heads with an official or two in the heat of the moment.

At times, although it makes no good logical sense, it can seem like they're pulling against your team at times and while head coaches feel it the most, assistants aren't immune to the feeling either.

Well this apparent hot mic moment from an NHL game last night isn't going to bode well to ease those worries from the coaching community.

Following a controversial tripping call against the Nashville Predators in their game against the Detroit Red Wings last night, one of the game's officials can be heard admitting to planning a penalty against the Predators early in the game.

Below is the controversial call, followed by the hot mic moment from the referree that has been identified as Tim Peel.

Warning - strong language included.

Tim Peel's conduct is in direct contradiction to the adherence to that cornerstone principle that we demand of our officials and that our fans, players, coaches, and all those associated with our game expect and deserve. There is no justification for his comments, no matter the context or his intention, and the National Hockey League will take any and all steps necessary to protect the integrity of our game."
