Watch: Jeff Brohm, Louisville release epic 'Top Gun' video for Cardinals football (Top Gun)

Jeff Brohm is back home, and Louisville is hoping that its favored son can revive a Cardinals program that's seeking consistent footing in at the least the upper half of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Cardinals have little residual success to show for the dynamic, national-headline-making exploits of star quarterback Lamar Jackson just a few seasons ago, when Louisville's football program was so exciting it became must-see TV.

Mediocrity has followed, and the Cardinals notably have taken a significant backseat to nemesis Kentucky in the Commonwealth.

The former star quarterback Brohm is back at his alma mater and seeking to replicate, if not elevate, the long-running success he engineered at Purdue.

So Brohm, a football coach's football coach, ventured outside his comfort zone a bit this week as Louisville released a two-minute hype video that shows the Cardinals -- with their head coach -- playing some pick-up football in downtown Louisville.

It's set to the theme of last year's smash movie hit, the 'Top Gun' sequel that smashed Hollywood box office records and starred Tom Cruise decades after Cruise starred in the original flick, and the Cards' creative staff dubbed the video 'Welcome to Flight School.'

Brohm's debut campaign at Louisville includes an interesting start to the 2023 season. The Cardinals open with an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup against Georgia Tech, and first-year full-time coach Brent Key, on Friday, Sept. 1, before playing six days later against Football Bowls Subdivision program Murray State Sept. 7.

Louisville then has in intersectional non-conference clash at Indiana Sept. 16.
